Maybe Christmas Doesn’t Come from a Store

Last Thursday was the Christmas Lighted Parade in Boone. My church started (hopefully) a new tradition by entering a float in the parade. I went down to the parade with the thought of photographing it, but in the end, I ended up on the church float.

Here are a few pictures from the night:

I’ll be excited to see where the church takes this new tradition in the future!

  1. I am still intrigued by your Grinch. I want to know his back story and such. Like, did the guy/gal just pre-own the costume? How could they see through that mask, I don’t see any eye-holes? Is it a member of your church, or just a random person who wanted to Grinch it up with you?

  2. This is absolutely everything I can tell you about our Grinch.

    1. I believe that The Grinch was the theme of the parade. So there may have been more than one.
    2. The guy in The Grinch costume is Chris Cromwell. He is an active member of the church. In his mid 30s. Works for the DOT doing something with bridges. He will be replacing me as Methodist Men President on January 1. He is also on the board of the Boone Humane Society. He was head of the Outreach Committee at my church, but he really hates that job. He is originally from Minnesota. He had a house in Saint Paul that he recently sold after his father suddenly got sick and passed away.
    3. When he found out that we were doing the parade he volunteered to be the Grinch and purchased his costume from Amazon. Although there was some concern about what to do for pants. I’m not sure where he got the pants.
    4. I believe the eyes are mesh and you can see out of them.

  3. I love how robust your answer is. Thank you.

OK, that makes sense. I was mostly curious if he is like Jesse, and just happens to have 20 costumes of various types in a closet somewhere. Does the Grinch wear pants in the movie? I feel like he should have followed that lead.
