WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 130 – ABSTRACT

The participation rates for ABSTRACT tumbled to near record lows. Which is harsh because ABSTRACT is literally the easiest theme in the challenge. Hopefully there will be a giant wave of participation this week. For the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE’S sake. For Kim’s sake.

But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about participation rates. You came to see the submissions.

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 131 - JOY
JOY!

JOY! What a great theme! But what is JOY. Well let’s look to the dictionary:

a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.

A JOY picture will be a picture of somebody expressing JOY or perhaps even, something/body that gives great JOY.

As always, I look forward to seeing your interpretations!

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge due date. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

On Friday night I went to The Open Flame in horrible Gilbert, Iowa for Andy’s birthday party extravaganza. While there, Andy convinced Jaxon Schoff to become the latest person to show class, taste, and sophistication by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. Jaxon might be the youngest subscriber currently. He is in the 8th Grade. But to think, if he is showing this much taste, class, and sophistication now… well he has av very bright future. America has a very bright future. If you see him out walking the mean county roads of rural Boone County feel free to give him a knowing glance and show him the super secret Photography 139 Handshake.

**************************************

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very joyous Monday!

  1. I’m so sorry, that’s partially my fault. It was a busy weekend with Spring Break starting and I flat-out didn’t get to it – I even had good intentions. I’m sorry!

  2. Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to Kim. She is the one that is concerned that the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE has run its course.

I’ll find a way to fill my Mondays. Perhaps by writing extensive reviews of the different types of moon pies.

    I have a rich life.

  3. Uhhh….
    There are:

    Salted Caramel
    Banana
    Vanilla
    Chocolate
    Strawberry
    Single Decker
    Double Decker
    Mini
    Orange
    Mardi Gras Coconut
    LookOut! Coconut Piies
    LookOut Pecan Pies

All of them gross, I’m sure. But all of them go great with RC Cola.

I only read the first of the Ten Commandments. I don’t have time for corporate brainwashing.

  4. I don’t know that I’ve even seen a regular moon pie on the shelves in about ten years, where is anyone finding all of those flavors?! Ah, RC Cola. Does Diet Rite still exist?

Sorry that the Ten Commandments tells it like it is about Toast ‘Ems, yo.

  5. It is okay that you do what your corporate overlords tell you to do. Trump needs voters too. NRA-TV needs viewers.

Occasionally I’ll find Moon Pies at random gas stations.

When I was in Mississippi/Tennessee they had Extra Sweet Tea by Gold Peak. It was glorious.

  6. The fundamental difference is that neither Trump nor the NRA provide a grossly superior product to the alternative. 😉

That does sound familiar, I may have seen them at gas stations. I didn’t know there was any such thing as “extra sweet tea.” When Jon was at the bowl game, he brought me home Rap Snacks from a gas station. They’re sitting at my desk in a place of honor.

  7. It is okay that you are so brainwashed by corporate America that you mistake price for quality.

Some day I hope you get woke.

Rap Snacks do sound amazing though.

  8. I am more woke than Childish Gambino when it comes to toaster pastries. In theory (rather than practice), communism is a beautiful idea. Which is great that you can then apply that theory and evenly distribute frosting on Pop Tarts and sauce on spaghetti, with none of the devastating downsides.

I can’t bring myself to eat them because they’re just so awesome.

  9. Please. You couldn’t be more asleep if Donovan Jackson hit a corner 3 in your face.

Your equal distribution of frosting is just proof that a soulless corporate robot spreads the frosting at whatever factory makes whatever corporate pastry you like.

Meanwhile, I’m over here enjoying artisan made toaster pastries. Because I enjoy quality with a human touch.
