WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 167 – ? PLACE

I don’t know if it was the holiday or just a really tough theme, but hardly anybody was inspired by last week’s theme, ? PLACE.

But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about participation rates, you came to see the submissions:

WEEK 167 - ? PLACE - BECKY PARMELEE
Becky Parmelee

Christopher D. Bennett

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATION! What a great theme! But what is a COMMUNICATION photo? A COMMUNICATION photo is any photo that shows creatures in the act of COMMUNICATION or a photo of objects that are used for COMMUNICATION.

I look forward to seeing your interpretations!

HOUSEKEEPING

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge due date. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

Nobody showed class, taste, and sophistication this week by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. I’ll try and do better next week.

+++++++

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very communicative Monday.

  1. I am so sorry – I even had a photo ready, and then fell asleep super-early last night. I like both of these submissions!

Oh no – I don’t remember Micky having terrible taste; is he an Iowa fan? Or does he like an unimportant outlier such as Drake or UNI? 😉 (Poking Shannon’s bear there.)

  2. Here is the truth about Micky. He CLAIMS that he hates both. He is a product of Central and he married an unabashed Hawkeye fan.

However, he has in the past shown undeniable Hawk fan tendencies.

But, the good news it that there is hope for young Micky. He has been coming around on the Cyclones. I think he realizes how incredibly stupid it is to root against, what is one of the biggest economic drivers for the community he lives in.

It is actually rooting against your own economic interests to root against Iowa State if you live in Ames or the surrounding area.

It is almost as dumb as being middle class and voting Republican. Not quite that dumb, but still pretty dumb. But you can easily trick people into voting against there interests if you can get them to blame people more unfortunate than them for their problems… but I digress.

The other engine that is driving the Micky to the Cyclones Bandwagon is his kids. Living in Ames, they are Cyclone fans. They wear Iowa State clothing and have had their picture taken with Cy on multiple occasions. They have attended Iowa State cheerleader camps and have cheered on the field at Jack Trice Stadium. They will convert him to the ways of good and righteousness.

Yes, I would defend Drake. It is a private school. It has a very good Law School. It has a reason to exist.

UNI on the other hand, is becoming a waste of tax dollars. It can’t sustain its self. Where Iowa and Iowa State make enough money to be sustained, UNI is hemorrhaging money left and right. It doesn’t really have anything to hang its hat on. It used to be the “teacher’s college”, but now Iowa and Iowa State both have higher rated teacher’s programs than UNI. In fact, UNI tried to force Iowa and Iowa State to lower their standards to UNI’s low standards so they wouldn’t look so bad. They politely declined.

There just isn’t a reason for UNI to exist any longer. If they were to put it to a vote, I would vote to shutter UNI’s doors.

  3. I am so glad the girls and economy are turning Micky to the light side. Because my goodness, he’s so smart. He should know better than to ever cheer for such a horrifying team. I wonder if your entirely rational economic argument could turn Derek D to ISU – I seem to remember him as being conservative when I was at O, but I know now he has seen the light there.

Speaking of conservatives at the former employer – it never-endingly baffles my mind that a former coworker who was fired and lives in Boone is Republican (now I’m wondering if you ever worked with her – first name started with a T and customers commonly thought she was a dude). From her comments, I don’t think she technically falls into the middle class range, so I cannot fathom how that would be in her best interest?! I don’t get it.

Usually, the only time I see people going to visit UNI is due to the Unidome holding the football championships (and they used to have all-state speech contests, not sure if they still do). Other than that, I honestly don’t see the draw myself (since I have no tradition tied to it). I think their music program is very good, from what I’ve heard? My husband attended there, but I don’t know that he even follows them anymore.
