AMERICANA! What a great theme! But what is AMERICANA. Basically, AMERICANA is/be/are things associated with the culture and history of America, especially the United States. Many things can fall under AMERICANA. Paintings, prints and drawings, license plates or entire vehicles, household objects, tools and weapsons, flags, plaques and statues.. Nostalgia often plays into AMERICANA.
Basically anything that screams AMERICA to you. From small town festivals to the local VFW. Have at it. Remember, you can define the theme anyway that you see fit. Just get out there and take some photos!

On a personal note, there are many people that think that I have all the themes planned out. I don’t. All the themes are on slips of paper in a blank DVD-R lid on my work desk. Every Monday morning I pull out a new slip and that is how the themes are decided. I do not try to align any theme up with a certain time of year. TREE just happened to coincide with Earth Day. Believe me. If I was lining themes up with holidays or times of year, HIGH PERSPECTIVE would’ve been last week.
What is HIGH PERSPECTIVE? In photographic terms, it is getting high above a subject and photographing it. It doesn’t have to be super high. You don’t have to go to tall building and look down. A few feet above your subject would work. If you want to phone it in. I would urge you to go out and find a cliff or a bridge or a parking ramp or a tall building or a roof top and get a different perspective on the world. Then share it with us.

MESSAGE FROM THE ROUNDBALL ORACLES DIVISION
Tonight is the national title game and there are two people still alive in the pursuit to have their name put on the List of Immortals, next to other basketball greats like Running Wolf and that missionary guy from Taiwan.
Here is what you need to know to base your rooting interests tonight:
IF North Carolina (a fine academic institution COUGH! COUGH!) wins, Paul Golden is this year’s Roundball Oracles Champ!
IF Gonzaga (a school that nearly closed in the 90s) wins, Andree Jauhari is this year’s Roundball Oracles Champ!
I know who I’m rooting to win. (Hint: It involves which one it will cost me the least amount of money to ship the trophy to…)

On the other side of the coin. Congratulations (I think) go out to Shannon Bardole (for the moment) for winning this year’s The Sara! The trophy awarded to last place adult that tried really, really hard. She edged out Jill Gorshe, Corey Faust (all that hockey must be going to his brain), and Laura Miller. Laura was close to clinching a repeat. However, South Carolina’s Final Four run gave her just enough points to best Shannon, Jill, and Faust in the final standings. Well played Laura!

FACELESS PORTRAIT is another one of my favorite themes. Perhaps it is because regular portrait photography is so stale and boring. Perhaps it is because I can never find a face to photograph that is as pretty as mine. I don’t know the reason. The point is, I love this theme!
All this theme is, is a portrait of somebody where there is no face. That doesn’t mean that the face is obscured in the photo. The head could be completely cropped out of your composition. It could be a picture of hands or feet (if you’re a creeper) or any body part, just no face.
So get out there and find a volunteer or do some candid photography. Just no faces!

Looks like the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE went on Spring Break. Perhaps SILHOUETTE is too challenging of a theme. I’m not sure, but participation numbers this week are as low as they’ve ever been. I don’t think I need to define ORANGE. It is a color. Not a primary color. But a color. There are lots of things out that are ORANGE. Even some humans fake tan themselves into a strange, creepy ORANGE hue. Of course there is a fruit that is ORANGE. In fact, there are several fruit that are ORANGE. Or you could even take a picture of anything and slap an ORANGE filter on it. Of course 1 of my favorite movie of all-time involves the word ORANGE. I know more than 1 person out there that that does art with an ORANGE or two. I can’t envision a picture where my inbox is just packed to the gills with ORANGE pictures.
