Happy Anniversary Juncks!

As you become aged, you get invited to less and less parties. I think I was invited to 3 toddler birthday parties and 1 anniversary party last year. I think that was it. My entire social calendar for 2017.

The anniversary party was for the parents of Sara and Steven Junck. I love visiting the Junck farm and snapped a couple of pictures while I was there:

I think I could spend days photographing the Junck farm and never get bored with it. But I only took a few pictures, cause I was partying it up! Actually I believe this was the day after I returned from the Mission Trip, so I was mostly ready to nap it up!

Refreshed from Time to Time with the Blood of Patriots and Tyrants

Thought I would share a few cruddy cell phone pictures from my recent trip to Memphis with Russell and Jesse to watch Iowa State’s 21-20 beatdown of Memphis in the Liberty Bowl:

Leave these guys alone for a moment and they are staring at their phones.

There are plenty of real camera pictures that will be released eventually, but thought I’d get these out early. I didn’t take the real camera into the Liberty Bowl. A myriad of reasons, but in the end, you just need to know that it didn’t work out.

Memphis’ stadium is a little dumpy. It isn’t a complete dump, like where Kansas and Missouri play. But it isn’t nice like where Kansas State or Iowa or of course like Jack Trice.

I have to commend Russell. He survived almost 3 full days with me and Jesse. That isn’t an easy feat for most people. He is horrified that I photograph my food, but he is going to have to learn. That is how Bennetts roll. It is genetic. I swear it!

To surmise, it was a great trip that ended with a Cyclone victory! I’m already making plans for next year’s bowl game trip. Who wants in?

Here are the other photos I took for the theme ART for the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE, but the world wasn’t ready for them on Monday. Hopefully the world is ready for them now:

The graffiti picture was taken in downtown Ames. The rest were taken in Boone. Either downtown or next to the football field. It was Homecoming in Boone last week. Apparently Boone got smashed by some town that doesn’t even exist. Ballard. Wherever that is.

Oh wait. The Lincoln Highway Marker photo was taken in Boone, near Jefferson Park. I think the young ones call it Cummings Park.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 75 – MUSIC

Most people seem to have adjusted to the new way of things. As participation rates didn’t spike, but they also didn’t fall… too far.

But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about participation rates. You came to see this week’s submissions. Here are the submissions for MUSIC:

A solid week of submissions! I’m glad so many people have MUSIC and a love of MUSIC in their lives! I weep openly for those of you that don’t.

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 76 - GOVERNMENT
GOVERNMENT!

“Oooh… GOVERNMENT. That sounds hard.” He heard a murmuring across the plains.

But it isn’t. Not at all. If you think about it, the GOVERNMENT is everywhere. I don’t mean that in a Big Brother-the NSA is wiretapping your phones and paying attention to whatever inane meme* you are posting on Facebook this week sort of a way. I mean that it is everywhere. That road you drove to work on today. That is the GOVERNMENT. That public park you went to this weekend. That is the GOVERNMENT. In the military? The United States military is the largest socialist organization in world. It is the GOVERNMENT. Police. GOVERNMENT. Firefighters. GOVERNMENT. Public schools. GOVERNMENT. Public universities. GOVERNMENT. Did you flush your toilet this morning? That stuff went into your city’s water treatment center. GOVERNMENT.

But GOVERNMENT doesn’t just mean your federal, state, county, or local government. That civic organization that you belong to. They have a GOVERNMENT. The youth sports organization altar that you sacrifice coin, happiness, and weekends upon. They have a GOVERNMENT. I’m even the President of a church organization. GOVERNMENT.

Of course, there are the obvious symbols of GOVERNMENT, like courthouses and capitol buildings. But as always, feel free to define the theme any way you see fit.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

Nothing new to report. I’ll try to do better next week.

Want your own Photography 139 email subscription? Call, email, or text me and I’ll get you the hook up.

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very governed Monday!

*All memes are inane.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE REMINDER – MUSIC

I had a request that there be multiple posts about the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE theme from somebody this week because they find it difficult to keep track of the weekly theme.

I told this person that Photography 139 isn’t a nanny state and that to do such runs contrary to Photography 139’s secondary Mission Statement. The one you don’t find on the ABOUT page of the Photography 139 website.

The Photography 139 Secondary Mission Statement:

We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in the streets, in competition: A man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy. STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY SIR!

It is one of many Photography 139 Secondary Mission Statements.

However, being a magnanimous leader, I have consented to this request. At 4 PM on Fridays, I will post a blog reminding everybody of this week’s theme. I figure most people take their photo during the weekend and nobody should have to work later than 4 PM on a Friday. We weren’t meant to live like that.

Reminder. This week’s theme:

WEEK 75 - MUSIC
MUSIC!

This reminder will replace the Monday morning text message I send to frequent contributors. The People’s President is magnanimous, but he also doesn’t have all the free time in the world.
