Happy Birthday Nate!

Way back in May of last year I surprised Nate for his birthday. Well, I wasn’t the surprise, I was the distraction. While I was in the Manhattan area, I snapped a few photos:

Some of the pictures were taken in Manhattan suburbs like Leonardville and Ogden and Shelbyville and Ogdenville and North Haverbrook.

Also, happy birthday to my sister Carla and Dawg Pound sister Monica. Since, you know, it is actually your birthdays today.

Needles Vol. 2

Here are the balance of the Needles Highway pictures:

I would highly endorse the Needles Highway. It is a 2 lane road that is about the width of the roads that go through State Parks in Iowa. Only on one side is a 1500 fall to your death. Usually without a guard rail. Plus the experience of going through the Eye of the Needle Tunnel is amazing!

There is more coming from this trip. I mean, I haven’t even touched Mount Rushmore or the Badlands yet!

Made it Ma! Top of the World!

A couple weeks back I went down to Manhattan, Kansas to visit Nate with Dae Hee. I actually only took out my camera once on the trip. Here are a few photos from Top of the World:

It was a successful trip. We ate at the Toot Toot. We sat next to Nick Weiler-Babb’s uncle during the Iowa State-Kansas State game. We watched IT. We ate at Jordy Nelson’s family restaurant. We went down a seedy back alley for donuts. We found out that Nate is a heavy sleeper in the most inconvenient way possible. All in all, it was a successful trip!

Don’t Know if I’m Elated or Gassy. But I’m Somewhere in that Zone

On my recent trip to the “bold” north, I made it a trip to Minnehaha Falls. Dae Hee and I foolishly made our way down a very dangerous set of steps to get near the base of the waterfall. Bethany and Nora wisely stayed in the car:

If Dae Hee tells this story, he will say that I fell 3 times on this little trip. But the truth is that I only fell twice. The third time did not count. Either way, he made a wonderful photo assistant. Top notch!

By What My Eyes Have Seen

On Super Bowl Sunday, DaeHee and I checked out part of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. It was -2 degrees. Bethany and Nora just circled the block in the car. Here are a few photos:

There were two big disappointments with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.

#1. You weren’t allowed to go inside the ice castle. It was for external viewing only.
#2. The fried cheese curd stand wasn’t open. Apparently -2 degrees is too cold for them. Lame. Take some pride in the craft.

But other than that I’d almost recommend going to part of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.

Iron Mountain Road

Now is probably a good time to share a few more photos from my trip to South Dakota with my Mom. These pictures are from the Iron Mountain Road:

If you ever visit the Black Hills, I would strongly recommend the Iron Mountain Road. You travel through 3 tunnels that all face Mount Rushmore. It is a particularly scenic route if you are going from Mount Rushmore to Custer State Park.

Algona is an Anagram for Analog

Still hammering away at that back log. Here are a few pictures from my trip to Algona with Joe.

We went to Algona so Joe could pick up a van to server as a distribution center for his cannabis oil business. The trip didn’t work out. We didn’t come home with the van. However, I got to meet Joe’s dad, which was a fascinating experience. Plus we swung through West Bend to see the Grotto of the Redemption. Then to cap it off, we supped at Tom Thumb’s in Fort Dodge.

All in all, it was a great day at sea!
