We in the Sh!t Now, Somebody Gotta Shovel It!

As I continue to hammer away at my backlog, the photos I took during the Women’s March in January seem apropos for this time in our history.

The #MeToo movement has really made some progress in this country lately. They have managed to out and take down several members of the media, Hollywood, and politicians. However, at the same time, there is still so much work to do.

Alabama is about to elect a serial pedophile to Congress.

A man that has sexually assaulted at least 19 women and was sued twice for raping a 13 year-old sits in the Oval Office.

I mean this is a legitimate argument and a legitimate screen shot of an ad for Michigan’s Attorney General race:

On top of that…

The most corrupt and treasonous regime in U.S. History currently sits in Washington trying to create a permanent aristocracy by killing net neutrality, ending estate taxes (while also raising taxes on the middle class), and getting rid of anti-trust rules to unify sources of information.

The work is far from done. We must continue to rise up!

This huge collection of photos was found in the folder called 01-01-08:

I don’t know if it the holidays or recently seeing some old friends, or a recent death to a close relation of a very close friend or if it is just because it is that time of year, but this particular walk down memory lane made me particularly nostalgic.

Nostalgic for:

1. A time when I stayed up late enough to do night photography.
2. A time when some of the people on the chili scoring sheet still worked at the computer mine.
3. A time when the computer mine had the old set up and not the cube farm setup.
4. A time when Vest could grip a toy gun with 10 fingers. Too soon?
5. A time when Symposium was still a thing.
6. A time when my beanie collection was so wanting.
7. A time when I was stuck at work after dark on holidays. Which is crazy because I always hated that.
8. A time when we could actually turn the lights off at work.
9. A time when being a piece of human debris made you ineligible for political office, rather than eligible for a cabinet position.

But when I wasn’t feeling all melancholy, by adding this images to the Photography 139 SmugMug Gallery, I was able to restore the following old timey blog posts:

“The Wrong Guy Got Elected”

For those that have been asking, it is my sad duty to report that Scott did not get elected last Tuesday. He lost the vote 161-126-2. Yes, there were two write-in votes. For Scooby Doo, I’m guessing. Based on how seriously some people take their vote.

But 161 votes for an incumbent is a clear indication that the incumbent doesn’t have a ton of support in his ward.

The momentary setback for Boone’s progress prompted me to get the following text message on Wednesday morning:

The wrong guy got elected.

I don’t want to go into a whole postmortem thing about the election right now. It is tough to defeat an incumbent. Particularly in an off year election. Especially when they have the backing of a political party and you don’t. Scott got a late start on his campaign. Perhaps Scott was even a slight victim of the blue wave that happened last Tuesday. It could even be argued that he was hurt by 1 issue voters. That 1 issue. Chickens in backyards.

Whatever the reason that Boone’s progress was temporarily halted last Tuesday, it is only temporary. Scott will continue his school board duties and he will be running for political office again. Soon. What office? Still to be determined.

I thought I would share some of the photos I took during this process:

The pictures from the album called 12-30-07 are more experiments with projection. I might need to get back into that in the near future. It is a good thing to play with when it is -7 out and the sun goes down at 4:05 PM.

By adding these pictures to the Photography 139 Smugmug Gallery I was able to restore the following blog to original greatness:

In next Saturday’s waltz down Memory Lane we will make our first dip into 2008 folders. Even though most of the pictures in it were taken in 2007. The pictures will include some Christmasy stuff, a throwback to a sadly dead tradition, and photos of one of the worst humans on earth (yes, almost a worse person than Rudy Giulani).

It is 7:01 AM. Some of us are already at work. The rest of you (at least those of you that live in Ward 5 of Boone, Iowa) are already standing in line at the Boone County Courthouse to cast your vote for Scott Degeneffe.

Some of you aren’t there though. Why not?

If I lived in Ward 5, I would have camped out overnight. Then tailgated in the morning. Then the moment the Boone County Courthouse doors were open, I would’ve have barged in and cast my vote for Scott Degeneffe.

Then I probably would’ve taken the rest of the day off to celebrate that I had done the best thing I could do on that day to improve the future outlook of Boone.

There was a time I was going to write a lengthy letter to the editor to the Boone News Republican about Scott’s many good points and why the good people of Ward 5 should run, not walk to the Boone County Courthouse on November 7 to cast their vote for Scott.

Unfortunately for me and maybe fortunately for Scott, time has not been my friend lately and I missed the deadline. That letter never was written.

Fortunately for you, Scott did write such a letter and I will share it with you:

This is the second to last time I’m going to remind you that if you live in Ward 5 of the great town of Boone, Iowa you should get out and vote for Scott Degeneffe for City Council tomorrow.

However, maybe you don’t know Scott as well as I do. It is possible that you haven’t known him for over 15 years. It is possible you haven’t worked with him. It is possible you haven’t been on a competitive barbecue team with him. It is possible you don’t spend your spare time traveling the state of Iowa looking for great tenderloins with him.

It is even possible that you just don’t want to take my word that he is a tremendous choice to represent Ward 5 on the City Council because of his character, because he isn’t an ideologue, because he is a pragmatic problem solver with years of working to build consensus through compromise.

Perhaps you want to hear from the man himself! Well your lucky, below is a video where the audio track is Scott’s interview on KWBG from a few weeks back:

First You “Meat” and then You Greet

Thanks to everybody that braved the cold temperatures on Sunday to attend Scott Degeneffe’s “Meat” and Greet and he continues to pursue election to the office of City Councilman for Boone Ward 5.

The event was a huge success! Attracting people as diverse as people that work on Republican campaigns to the most ardent backyard chicken activists.

Remember that you (if you live in Ward 5) can, should, and must vote for Scott Degeneffe on November 7th!

“Meat” and Greet

This is your 3 Day out reminder about your chance to knock down some high quality BGR barbecue and meet City Council Candidate for Ward 5 on Sunday. 12-2. Herman Park.

The food is free and delicious! I’ll be there manning a table about voter registration or something like that. Scott may even reveal his position on the Boone’s big chicken controversy. Who know? Anything could happen!

I mean if my Uncle Terry likes him…

Stand by for NEWS!!!

For the first time in (well I’m sure it has been a really long time) I am using the full power of this blog (COUGH! COUGH!) to endorse a political candidate for public office.

That man: Scott Degeneffe
That political office: Boone City Council – Ward 5

Take a look at his flyer:

You may be asking yourself, “Do I live in Ward 5? I want to vote for Scott Degeneffe RIGHT NOW!!!!”

While I agree that he is a person, a candidate, that is worthy of such passion, but you only live in Ward 5 if you live West of Division Street, North of Park Avenue, East of Montana, and South of 9th Street.

But just don’t take my endorsement. Come to the “Meat” and Greet next Sunday from 12-2 to meet the man. Take him around the block. Kick the tires. Look him in the eyes. Then go make plans to vote for him on November 7.

Some experimental photos of flowers and a picture of guy that’s criminal incompetence endangered and probably cost the lives of at least 200 firefighters on 9/11 and then turned around and exploited their heroism to increase his national standing afterwards. Despite lying to them about the dangers of the air quality at the Ground Zero site. Then some experimental photography.
