Weekly Photo Challenge Week 5 – WILD ANIMAL

Admittedly, at this time of year, this is a hard theme to tackle. However, a fair amount of people were able to find a WILD ANIMAL. The challenge gets harder and harder as the weather gets colder and colder.

This week’s submissions:

Micky Augustin

Michelle Haupt

Mike Vest

Christopher D. Bennett

Angie DeWaard

Time to reveal this week’s theme:

FACELESS PORTRAIT

I don’t know that I need to define this one, I think everybody knows the definition of portrait. I think everybody knows what a face looks like. So this is a portrait that doesn’t include a face.

No other real news to share. No new subscribers this week. The website is undergoing a metamorphosis, if you haven’t noticed. It isn’t there yet, but it almost is, so feel free to check the website’s new look out. Including new headers! New logo! My Snapcode! Same great content!

As always, good luck this week to you and your faceless victims… um… subjects!

Side

I obviously couldn’t go through the entire week without posting 1 flower picture. Russell would leave the family out of protest, I have no doubts…

Another flower picture from my trip to the Iowa State Fair.

New Toy

We recently held an auction at the Computer Mine. The one thing in the auction that I really coveted was a blue Canon A4000 IS. I’m not a Canon guy at all. However, I’ve been sans point and shoot for a couple years now and there are times (like mission trips) where a little point and shoot would come in handy. While it isn’t the most powerful camera, I thought if I could get it for $50 bucks (while it retails for $150) I could slum and add a Canon to the arsenal.

I am notoriously tough on point and shoots, so hopefully it will last me a couple years or so.

I thought I would crack it out and document my weekend, to get a feel for it. Below are those pictures.

Monday morning. Back to the grind.

I couldn’t wait for Monday night when I finally got a chance to breathe and have a small bit of free time again.

Coming Soon…

Actually, not coming soon. They are already there.

Recently my sister Teresa came across a collection of theater seats at the Funky Rooster. She was able to negotiate a sweet deal and after borrowing a truck from the Petersons and getting Derrick to help load them and Willy to help unload them and place them in The Union Street Theater, they are home.

Here are a couple of cruddy cell phone pictures for you to admire my recent addition and commitment to consumerism.

Derrick strapping the seats in.

Willy and I testing them out.

Another view of the test.

This addition will seat four people or two straight males.

My understanding is that these seats came from the old Century Theater that was on Duff all those years ago.

I also recently added a computer to the Union Street Theater to make it easier to stream music or watch YouTube videos down there.

I’m not sure how many people can sit and watch movies at the Union Street Theater, but currently there are 4 theater seats, 2 recliners, 1 couch, a daybed, a trundle bed, and 1 bean bag chair. However, the couch will probably bite the dust at some point.

The Union Street Theater will start hosting more formal events in the future. Including:

-Probably at least 2 viewings of MANOS: HANDS OF FATE.
-A Network Engineering viewing of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
-A possible Youth Group event.
-A Nader birthday movie viewing.
-Another undetermined movie viewing.
-Many a Cyclone sporting event watch party.

I think I might be done tinkering with it for awhile, but I would have made that same claim a few weeks ago.

Weekly Photo Challenge Week 4 – GREEN

Pretty good participation this week. I have no complaints.

It is time to reveal this week’s theme…

WILD ANIMALS!

Time for a definition…

A wild animal is defined as an animal which lives in nature (is not provide shelter by a human), is responsible for getting its own food and water (is not provided food or water by humans), and is not cared for by humans.

However, as always, interpret the theme as you will. Deadline for submission is noon next Monday. Email them to bennett@photography139.com.

One quick housekeeping note. Last week was a very successful week for the recruitment division of Photography 139. They added 4 new email blog subscribers. If you see the following people on the streets, extend them a heartfelt greeting. For they are now part of the family:

-Carla Stensland
-Joseph Lynch
-Jorge Rios
-Anders Runestad

Also I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago that Melissa Degeneffe also became an email subscriber. You can also give her the secret handshake if you see her out and about.

If you have stumbled upon this blog post, you too can become an email subscriber by emailing bennett@photography139.com or by leaving a comment in the comments section.

You Lookin’ at Me?

I’ve always said that my favorite pictures of people are when they are being real and not the posed holiday card variety. Perhaps this is why I have so few portrait accounts. Also perhaps why I don’t have a Christmas card.

In between painting my house and going out for my Mom’s birthday, I trudged around McHose Park with the Howards for their annual family photo shoot. I don’t usually release any images from the shoot until after Christmas, but they have already been published on Facebook, so I’m probably safe.

Here is one of my favorite images from the shoot:

There was a lot more teenage girl drama flying around than in years past, but that only adds to the humor of the day for me. Probably more to come in this series.

Party of Another Kind

While I prefer the kind of party where a bunch of people show up at my house and do a bunch of work to my house, other people prefer parties where cake is served and people have polite conversation. Back in August we had such a party for my Grandma’s 90th birthday.

Here is a photo from that event:

Pictured are all of my Mom’s kids that could make it. Me, Logan, Teresa, Alexis, Carla, and Jason.

I wish I could remember who took this picture so they could get credit, but I can’t…

Oinge

It has been almost a week since I posted a flower picture and I’m sure that Russell was probably getting a little antsy, so I’ll post one of my favorite pictures that I took at the Iowa State Fair.

I might even finish the week out back to back to back flower pictures. You never know.
