And I’m Out to Cut the Junkie

I actually made two trips out to McHose Park to attempt to create my WATER image for the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE. Loyal followers of my Instagram account know what happened during my first effort. Therefore, no reason to bring that up again.

I took more than 1 photo while I was out there, so I thought I would share some of the other contenders for WATER, that fell short one way or another.

I’m sure I won’t have as many FOOD losers. Or maybe I’ll have no food losers. I guess I’ll see how that plays out.

I Can’t Have You

Last week, in the comments section of this here blog (sometimes known as THE ARTIST’S NOTEBOOK) I promised to publish a photo using a special effect known as the dream effect. It was all the rage in photo contests a few years back. This image is the culmination of a promise that dates back… like a week.

I put a little bit of a light touch on it. I want you to be aware that something isn’t quite right, but not immediately aware of what it is.

Use Them. Enjoy Them. Dominate Them.

Over 4 years ago, I felt it was time to retire The Friend Wall and replace it with something else. After reading a book from THE DAILY SHOW I came upon the idea to have 9 people pose while conveying 9 different emotions.

Many times I’ve thought about bringing back THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT with more people. Not just 9 more people, but more people. I even had a false start with Dawn that resulted in a photo shoot where the images have since been lost.

However, I now have began the process of starting again. I’m not sure where this will lead. There isn’t a timeline or a plan. I don’t know if any of the original 9 will come back and recreate their original photo shoot. Anything is possible.

So meet Michelle, who has become the first person to pose for the next generation of THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT photos.

9 Emotions - Michelle Haupt

Read the 9 emotions left to right. Top to bottom. Take Tylenol for any headaches. Midol for any cramps.

1. Joy
2. Sadness
3. Anger
4. Amusement
5. Fear
6. Jealousy
7. Surprise
8. Sympathy
9. Boredom

I have even created a Gallery that is dedicated to housing the images from THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT.

The original 9 were:

1. Cousin Amy
2. Sara
3. Derrick
4. Jen
5. Jesse
6. Jay
7. Shannon
8. Willy
9. Jlll

If you want to visit that gallery, click on the link below:

THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT

Inside that gallery, for the first time for public eyes, I have released my photo shoot for THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT.

A question you might ask is this:

Will this pathetic mining of the past lead to future past mines?

The answer is maybe. I have tentatively been thinking about bringing back THE LABELS PROJECT as well. However, I really need to meditate on that one. I’ll get back to you on that one.

Another question might be:

Will these new images go on the THE 9 EMOTIONS PROJECT WALL in my living room?

The answer is no. I have a plan for that wall, but it is extremely expensive. What is that plan? Donate to my Go Fund Me page and maybe I’ll tell you*.

*I don’t have a Go Fund Me page.

WEEK 9 - FOOD
FOOD!

There should be a ton of submissions for this theme! Almost everybody I know eats! And the majority of those people eat food!

food – noun – Any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or that plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth.

It is also time for a quick housekeeping note from Photography 139’s Shameless Self-Promotion Division:

We are pleased to announce the addition of a new member of the email subscription family… Elizabeth Nordeen. Therefore, if you see Elizabeth Nordeen out and about (when she goes out and about) give her a knowing look and feel free to teach her the super-secret Photography 139 handshake.

Welcome aboard Elizabeth! We know you won’t openly regret it!

New Friends

My nephew Brandon recently add a new life into his life and therefore into my family’s life. He drove halfway across the state and picked up Ezra. Last Sunday he brought Ezra over to meet Naima.

It was late and it was dark and so normally I wouldn’t post a photo that is this poor, but it is the best I have to offer to record what was the initial meeting between 2 new friends.

Naima and Ezra

The addition of this new companion reminded me of a video that recently went viral that a man made to help him say goodbye to his dog Denali.

The video ends with a quote from a scientist about what we can learn from dogs. While it has been well established that dogs are superior to humans in about every conceivable way, I had never heard this awesome aspect of dogs put so well. So I looked up the source of the actual quote and it is excellent advice on many levels.

“Everything you do for a dog to help them age well, you should do with them.

So eat the best food you can afford. Go for a walk, even if it’s raining. Take a lot of naps. Keep your teeth clean and your breath fresh, so that the people you lick will not flinch. And when someone you love walks in through the door, even if it happens five times a day, go totally insane with joy.”

The last line being the most poignant and obviously, the part where dogs have us beat. Every day of the week.

Why do I bring this up? Other than because I love dogs. Because it has given me an idea for a video project that I’m going to do with Naima in the near future. Some of you will be warned that you are in it. Some of you will just find out as it goes along.

Will History Blame Me…

We have been invaded, by an enemy far more lethal than any human force.
-Brad Crane

This photo is another tribute to a personal hero of mine Brad Crane. The scientist that saved America from the horrible bee invasion of 1978. Not only did he save us while doing minimal damage to the environment, it can’t be understated how snappy a dresser he was. I salute you Brad Crane.

A Grandmother Pretends

On the Monday before Halloween the Eastern Star Home’s residents hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. My Mom helps coordinate volunteers from our church to help the residents that need it.

Below are a few pictures from that event.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 7 – SHADOWS

The theme SHADOWS must not have done it for many people. At least there was a new submitter this week. Welcome aboard Shannon!

Perhaps this week’s theme will be more to the liking of more peoples.

This week’s submissions:

So it is time to unleash this week’s theme. It is an easy one. I swear!
