WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 24 – ABSTRACT

Even though this week’s theme was a bit obtuse, there were a healthy amount of submissions for ABSTRACT.

Let’s get to them!

ALL great photos with what I assume great photo assistants! Especially the ones having eye problems.

But enough about the past…

How about this week’s theme:

WEEK 25 - SELF-PORTRAIT
SELF-PORTRAIT!

Self-Portrait! Or as Russell calls them “selfies”. This is an easy theme. After all, almost everybody I know owns a camera. And almost everybody I know owns a self. My inbox should be jam packed with submissions this week. I can’t wait!

HOUSEKEEPING

PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

I’m pleased to announce that Bethany Yoon has become the latest person to show her keen intellect and sophisticated tastes by becoming a Photography 139 email subscriber. I wish I had more time to write about Bethany’s many winning attributes, but time is a fickle taskmaster. I have the time to say that she is married to long-time Photography 139 supporter and elementary school punching bag DaeHee Yoon. She lives in the Minneapolis area growing the Photography 139 Minnesota Footprint to 4 Subscribers! I think it is sufficient to say that she is one of my most favoritest people in the world. Even if she doesn’t enjoy good “Racks” style humor. DaeHee knows what I’m talking about. #TeamKnockers So if you see her out and about walking the mean streets of Minneapolis or Burnsville with her selfless canine Tempe or a stroller (soon), feel free to give her a knowing glance and teach her the super-secret Photography 139 handshake.

2007 – January – Before & After

Although I’ll eventually move this series to Saturday* (like next Saturday) I wanted to debut it today, before I hit the trail for parts north.

The external hard drive that houses many of my old images is becoming increasingly less reliable, so I’m in the process of transferring them to the world wide webs for safe keeping.

These are images from January 2007 in a folder labeled “Before & After” that I thought were borderline interesting enough to keep for posterity.

Another folder next Saturday.

*I quickly discovered that I didn’t have the time needed to dedicate to do an adequate “Lists” segment. If I’m going to fail at something due to lack of time, I have other things I’d prefer to fail at.

Bridge Mode

A wintry look at Ledges’ famous stone bridge.

I might just make this entire week about my walk around Ledges. But I might not. It is almost as if writing the 2 previous sentences was a complete waste of time.

I love the fact that there was a wide variety of old and new technology. Both black and white and color submissions. This was one of my favorite weeks ever!

But why live in the past. Let’s look at this week’s theme…

WEEK 24 - ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT!!

But what is ABSTRACT?

Well here is a pretty good definition of abstract art from the interwebs:

“Art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.”

Here is an example from my own photography:

or

A couple things to try would be to find an abstract piece of art to photograph, photograph something or somebody completely out of focus, use a long exposure (probably best at night) and move the camera around, move the zoom on your lens while the photographing something or somebody, or define abstract any way that you feel fits you.

As always, I look forward to seeing your guys’ creative efforts!

HOUSEKEEPING

Nothing new to report today. I’ll try to do better this week.

AIN’T NO PLACE TO HAVE A BABY

When you got no man to give it his last name…

And her folks back in Manhattan didn’t want her or her bundle…

So she took her child and caught an evening train…

She found a job in Denver washing dishes in a diner…

At least it buys her baby milk to drink…

He once told her she was pretty…

But the only ring it got her…

Was the ring of grease that runs around the sink…

Yes she lay beside him gentle…

‘Cause he told her that he loved her…

And he made her dance before the music played…

But at least she didn’t beg him…

She’d rather wash her dishes…

It makes her feel as if her hands are clean…

Rich Chords Over a Bass Pedal

I feel like it has been too long since I published a picture of Naima.

So I’m going to remedy that:

Naima does love new fallen snow. Probably because she doesn’t have to snow. Oh wait… I never have to shovel snow either!
