HDR EFEX PRO 2 ALPHA

A month or so ago I wrote about a free Photoshop Plugin from Google called the Nik Plugin Collection. Today I’m going to share some of their default filters.

This post is going to concentrate on the the HDR EFEX PRO 2 tool, which creates HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.

This Plugin can work in two ways. It can either create an HDR Image by merging multiple images or it can do HDR Tone Mapping from a single image and make sort of a faux HDR Image.

Because there are 28 different “ready to go” filters I am splitting this post into 2 different days.

I apologize for the disgusting nature of the base image, but I considered it a good example. I’ll make up for it on Friday by publishing something cute and furry.

Here are the first examples from the HDR EFEX PRO 2:

I know. Coca-Cola. Disgusting. On the positive, it is a rusted out, old abandoned Coca-Cola machine. Just like all Coke machines should be.

For the record, I found this one in Strong City, Kansas.

The rest of the filters will be unveiled on the morrow.

  1. We did a lot with the Nik plugin in my black/white photography class last month. It’s really a cool plugin.

That being said, I found this post very informative in many ways. One being that, despite always having considered you a man of discernment and taste, I now find that you prefer Pepsi to Coke?

  2. Unfortunately I was born with fully functioning taste buds and have taken care to keep them working. Therefore acid tasting soda has never appealed to me.

I do concede that Coke has its purpose in this world. It is a very effective toilet cleaner. Which means it serves one more purpose than Mountain Dew.

I guess I do use Mountain as a white trash marker, so they both have 1 purpose.

I was going to get a little into Nik’s functionality to make it appear more than just a glorified Instagram, but thought that might be more work than most people would appreciate.

  3. To be fair, I am talking about the diet iterations of the two. Diet Pepsi is swill with a flat flavor and no sparkle. Diet Coke is the nectar of the gods. I largely refuse to drink non-diet cola because it tastes far too sweet to me – but if I were to do so under duress, I would select regular Pepsi over regular Coke because there is less of a syrupy flavor. I don’t know if you are speaking of diet or “straight” cola, so perhaps we are actually in agreement. But then again, you like ghetto Pop-Tarts, so… (Agreed on Mountain Dew, it’s not good in any form.)

Your market indeed might be a little limited in that much detail, but I know I’d be interested in it if you take the time in the future.

  4. I don’t have an opinion on diet sodas. They are so terrible for you that I completely avoid them. I don’t really even drink much pop at all these days. Since they aren’t much better for you than diet pop.

But there are certain foods that I just have to have an ice cold Pepsi, Jones, or Jarritos with. Such as pizza and tenderloins.

Of course, a Judge Wapner Root Beer Float does hit the spot now and again.

I’ve been trying to decaffeinate my diet lately, but I’ve had iced tea with supper 3 straight nights, so I’m not exactly knocking that goal out of the park.
