Senior Sunday – Garrett – Volume 3

On our Sunday worship service (on KWBG) we honored our graduating seniors with a video that is a compilation of the the seniors discussing their future and their favorite aspects of Boone First United Methodist Church.

I acted as something of a clearinghouse for the video. I collected all the videos, but I outsourced its creation to Logan, because I’m not great at video editing. Every time I have to edit a video I have to spend hours re-learning the video editing program. Logan was able to do the video in probably minutes, compared to the hours it would’ve taken me.

Here is the video:

We have a great class of seniors this year!

This is the final collection of senior pictures we took with Garrett. There might not be that many Senior Sundays left, but still several I’m sure:

I need to start this post by wishing the happiest of birthdays to my bro Nate. Happy birthday Nate!

The pictures in the folder 2009-11-23 are from a trip I made with the family to Kansas City to watch Alexis compete in a cheerleading competition.

If you niece and nephew are going to compete in a sport, they can do worse than cheerleading. The routines last maybe a couple minutes. The you can leave. It isn’t a several hour commitment. Which is key, because I love my nieces and nephews dearly. But I care nothing about other people’s nieces and nephews. I don’t want to spend hours watching them compete, just to get to watch my niece and/or nephew compete. I want to watch my niece compete. Then I want to go get some tasty barbecue.

What I’m getting at is this, never, under any circumstances, agree to go to a gymnastics meet. There are multiple events and 10,000 kids. The worst part, they all use the same music for the floor exercise. Trust me, you don’t want to hear the same 30 second clip of some horrible song 10,000 times in one day. It will make you psychotic. Just saying…

One caveat though… cheerleading moms 100% live up to the stereotype.

By adding these pictures to the Photography 139 Gallery, I was able to restore the following historic “An Artist’s Notebook” entries to their original glory:

Next Saturday’s walk down memory lane will involve Jill and her foot.

The Baugher Wedding – Three

Day, I think 45 of working from home. Not sure I’ve discovered any other positives of working from home, this week. But… I finally started working on the basement. I did take some before pictures and I will post them when the project is done.

I do know that I’m going to need lots and lots and lots of garbage bags for this project. I’m also going to try to find some new homes for a few things. So if you could use a day bed, let me know. Otherwise, it will be going to the landfill on June 7 as part of the City Wide Clean-Up. Along with several tables and chairs, I’m sure.

I might post the items that are getting downsized, to see if anybody wants any of those things before they are consigned to the ash heap of history.

+++++++

Here it is. The virtual end of the 2019 backlog. Yes, there are still a handful of senior pictures out there to curate, but I’m going to finish those off on Senior Sundays.

This means, to the relief of many I’m sure, I will be going back down to just 1 or zero posts a day. I’m not sure when my default time of day will be to publish said posts, but if you have an opinion, feel free to leave it in the comments section.

Here are the final pictures from Alexis and Kupono’s wedding:

Holy Astringent Plum-like Fruit!

The tree-shrub-bush that is right in front of my front door recently was the home to a robin’s nest. I managed to take a few pictures of the transformation from eggs, to nestling to a fledgling that hangs out in my cherry tree in the backyard.

It will be a relief to not be in backlog, seems like I’ve been in it forever!

#63

I only have one image to share today. It might not seem like much of an image at first glance. It is just a wet gazania. But this is a focus stacked image. It took 63 pictures just to combine all of them into this one image.

Gazania - Focus Stacked

I repeat, it isn’t that I took 63 images and this is the one I like the best, I took 63 images and combined them into one image.

I’m sure I’ll be doing more focus stacking in the future. The photo rail makes it way easier to focus stack. In addition to making it way easier to do super macro.

Now I have yet to do a super-macro photo stacked image, but that is coming. Very soon.

Thought I would reveal the latest collection of images that have been added to the CANVAS WALL PROJECT.

Falling Green Screen

I have been asked how I did my SELF-PORTRAIT for THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE. Well, here is a quick run down.

For starters, I laid a green screen down on my driveway. Then I took Rodan139 357 meters above sea level and set the camera to take time lapse pictures every 10 seconds.

Falling Green Screen

Then I tried a few poses:

Falling Green Screen

But I ultimately decided on this pose:

Falling Green Screen

Since I had Rodan139 out, I went ahead and took a couple pictures of the nearby water tower:

Falling Green Screen

Falling Green Screen

Then I took Rodan139 up to 397 meters above sea level and took a picture straight down:

Falling Green Screen

Next I opened up both images in Photoshop. I cropped the picture of me, so it was only me and the green screen:

Falling Green Screen

After cropping the images, I went to the select menu and chose “Color Range”. Then using the eyedropper tool, I held the SHIFT key while clicking and dragging around all the green area that I need ed to remove:

Falling Green Screen

Then from the SELECT menu, I chose INVERSE.
Then, while holding the SHIFT key, I chose SELECT AND MASK.

From that menu I played with the SMOOTHNESS slider to make the edges of the selection smoother.

Falling Green Screen

When I was satisfied, I selected OK.

Then from the SELECT menu, I chose INVERSE. Then I pushed BACKSPACE to remove the green screen:

Falling Green Screen

Then I copied the selection over to the new background image.

Falling Green Screen

Then finally, I blurred the new background slightly, to make the image look more realistic. This was the final result:

I do believe that when you are from Iowa and you marry somebody from California, you are legally obligated to have your picture taken in front of corn.

One final collection of Elainie Homecoming pictures left to go!

Disgusting!

Yesterday there was a glitch with the program that sends out post notifications. Therefore, the emails got sent out like 8 hours after the post was actually posted. Hopefully I have fixed that problem, but won’t find out until this publishes!

I apologize for today’s subject. It is one of the most despicable organisms on the planet. It makes me sick every time I see one in my yard. But they are fine in your yard. As long as your yard isn’t next to my yard.
