A good, healthy week of submissions!

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 54 - OLD
OLD!

I’m running behind, so I don’t have a tremendous amount of time to be witty about OLD. You know OLD when you see it.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

We are pleased to announce Paul Golden is the latest person to display taste, class, and sophistication by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. Paul plays a mean baritone and sings with one as well. By virtue of being in Connecticut, he is the farthest east of any Photography 139 email subscriber. The empire has grown! So if you see Paul out walking the mean streets of Connecticut, feel free to give him a knowing glance and if you have the inclination, show him the Super Secret Photography 139 Handshake.

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very olden times Monday!

WEEK 53 - BODY PART
BODY PART!

BODY PART? Yep. BODY PART! This should be easy enough. Just about everybody you know has a body part or two or three or four hundred. Heck! Did you know that more than just humans have body parts? All sorts of animals have body parts! But as always, feel free to define the theme however you see fit!

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

We are pleased to announce that Cathie Raley is the latest person to show her taste, class, and sophistication by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. The only real thing to tell you about Cathie is that she is a witch. Not a wiccan, but an actual witch. She also helps secure the Photography 139 Footprint in Nevada, Iowa. So if you see Cathie out and about walking the mean streets of Nevada, feel free to give her a knowing glance and if you have time, show her the Super Secret Photography 139 Handshake.

That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be an anatomical Monday!

The Colo Derby

A couple Saturdays back I traveled to America’s crossroads: Colo, Iowa to take place in a turtle race that I have dubbed The Colo Derby.

My noble steed Titian dominated the competition, but on that day, it would NOT only be the turtles that smelled fishy. If you get what I’m laying down. Nudge-nudge-wink-wink! I’m saying the officiating was terrible. Okay.

Here are a few photos of this most American of travesties.

Most people never get this close to greatness.

Victory. Titian is thy name!

A training lap.

I’m hoping we can make some wishes out of turtle-planes.

The combatants and their steeds. Cathie (left) was the “victor”.

The official results and some dimestore (albeit very accurate) analysis:

1. Cathie’s Turtle (won because some people don’t understand time.)
2. Titian (second place because of the base ugly human emotion called jealousy.)
3. Joe’s Turtle (third place because Joe was afraid to touch his turtle and his turtle didn’t respect him for this weakness.)
4. Michelle’s Turtle (last place because Michelle hates animals and the turtle could sense it and the turtle quit on her.)

After the race was run, I placed Titian back in the 5 gallon bucket from which he came. I am a man. He is a turtle, but I know we made a very special connection that day. Our paths will cross again. We will have our vengeance!

Spirit Week

One of the most popular weeks at the Computer Mine is Customer Service Week. There are lots of theme days and people get to dress up in costumes. The week climaxes with the crowning of a Customer Service Week King and Queen. It reminds me of Spirit Week at dear old Boone High.

I was contracted to take a few pictures of the participants. Here are a few of those photos:

Not sure where next week’s Wednesday Randomness will take us. Probably down portrait lane…

RWPE Y2 #33 – FEET

The submissions for FEET:

Geri Derner

Cathie Raley A

Cathie Raley B

Cathie Raley C

Christopher D. Bennett

Mike Vest A

Mike Vest B

Julie Johnson

The theme for next week is:

STRENGTH

This is a twist on a theme from last year, so there isn’t a need for a look back.

I don’t want to get arrogant, (since my last attempt was a complete and utter failure) but I will hopefully be on vacation in Minnesota at this time next week. Therefore I will probably not be near a computer and able to publish your submissions. So what will publish at this time next week will just be the theme for the following week. I will publish any submissions later in the week when I return.

RWPE Y2 #16 – HANDS

The holiday weekend didn’t scare off everybody from submitting. Here are the submissions for HANDS:

WEEK 16 - HANDS - CATHIE RALEY
Cathie Raley

WEEK 16 - HANDS - CHRISTOPHER D. BENNETT
Christopher D. Bennett

I’ve been down to visit the Random Theme Generator for this week’s theme. This is what it gave me:

MOTION

A look back at last year’s MOTION submissions.

MOTION – 2010

I hope this theme is inspirational for lots of people out there.

RWPE Y2 #14 – Dry

It appears that some of the excitement for RWPE may be drying up. On a related note, here are the submissions for DRY:

WEEK 15 - DRY - WILL RALEY
Will Raley

WEEK 15 - DRY - MIKE VEST
Mike Vest

WEEK 15 - DRY - CATHIE RALEY
Cathie Raley

WEEK 15 - DRY - CHRISTOPHER D. BENNETT
Christopher D. Bennett

I stumbled down to the Random Theme Generator’s residence and demanded a new theme for this week. This is what it gave me:

FOOD

A look back at last year’s submissions for FOOD:

2010-FOOD

Considering she takes a picture of every meal she eats, I’ll be very disappointed if Teresa doesn’t submit a picture for next Monday.

Despite the downward spiral RWPE seems to careening down, I did get some positive news on Saturday night. For the first time in probably over a year, I get to welcome a new email subscriber to this blog to the fold. So welcome aboard Susana Funk!

RWPE Y2 #12 – Unfocused

There were a fair amount of submissions for UNFOCUSED. So without further adieu…

FAST

Good luck capturing some FAST subjects.
