The Howards: 2016 – Chapter 1

By the time this gets published, I’ll probably be making the trudge up Expo Hill towards the Cultural Building to pick up my photos from the Iowa State Fair Photography Salon.

If you didn’t get a chance to duck into the Cultural Building to check out my photos, that is fine. That is dandy. Here are the 4 pictures I entered. 2 were accepted for display. 2 were not.

2 pictures for display was a solid showing. You never know what the judges will like. I was surprised that Willy’s eye was selected for display. I thought of the 4, it had the worst chance to make it. I guess you never know.

A few statistics from the Iowa State Fair Photography Salon:

1018 Photographers Entered
3201 Photographs Entered
Photographers from 20 other states entered
863 Adults Entered
466 of adults who entered have at least one photograph on display
27% of the photos entered were exhibited

I should start planning for next year, but that hasn’t really been my style, yet.

+++++++

Starting on the 3rd to last photo shoot from 2016 to have the 2016 backlog cleared up.

This collection is from the Howard Family Photo Shoot:

I told all the people that missed Saydie Sundays that she would be back. For at least one more week after this, even!

A Photo Journal – Henry Carroll – Page 98

This picture for THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT was taken a couple months back during the annual Howard Family Photo Shoot:

Here are some other I took during the same session that I like, but won’t be physically adhered in the physical manifestation of A PHOTO JOURNAL:

I’m not sure what page we will hammer out next time we check-in with THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT. Possibly pages 50-51.

The pictures in the folder 10-31-07 display both a terrifying display of brute strength and a terrifying display of Halloween costumes.

By dusting off these pictures and adding them to the current Smugmug Photo Gallery, I was able to restore the following blog posts:

COSTUMES

HP LASERJET 4100

I have now restored all of the October 2007 blog posts to close to their original glory. Now I can’t tell you why I’ve felt motivated to restore decade old blog posts, because I know that nobody is checking them out, but I can tell you that I’ve learned a lot about who I used to be. I used to be somebody that put up photos within minutes after taking them. The current me has photos that he took close to a year ago that he still needs to look at. I probably need to find some middle ground on that.

Next Saturday’s walk down memory lane will involve more Iowa State Football and some surprising tailgaters!

Thug Life

Although this undeniably falls into the category of posed photo, I still enjoy it as it shows flashes of truth. And we all know what Picasso said about art and the truth… right?

The Howard Children and their Significant Others

I should make a quick note that with this journal entry I’ve experimented with posting a larger image size. The million dollar question is whether or not this is how that image shows up in the inboxes of email subscribers.

If it is all jacked up, as always, you can click on the link and it should take you to the blog on the website.

You Lookin’ at Me?

I’ve always said that my favorite pictures of people are when they are being real and not the posed holiday card variety. Perhaps this is why I have so few portrait accounts. Also perhaps why I don’t have a Christmas card.

In between painting my house and going out for my Mom’s birthday, I trudged around McHose Park with the Howards for their annual family photo shoot. I don’t usually release any images from the shoot until after Christmas, but they have already been published on Facebook, so I’m probably safe.

Here is one of my favorite images from the shoot:

There was a lot more teenage girl drama flying around than in years past, but that only adds to the humor of the day for me. Probably more to come in this series.
