Here are a few of my favorites from the ongoing Selfie Project from the month of May:
May 2
Hoping June is just as good as May was!
A good solid set of submissions for PORTRAIT as we head down the homestretch of this year’s WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE.
But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about submission rates. You came here to see the submission for PORTRAIT:
What a great week of submission!
But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:
NATURE! What a great theme! I know getting out in NATURE might be outside of the comfort zone of some people, but trust me. It isn’t scary out there. Unless you go out to your favorite State Park and it is lousy with a bunch of posers. Only showing up when the weather is nice. Taking up space and getting in the way. But I don’t talk from personal experience. Lousy stinking posers!
But I digress. There is NATURE everywhere. Even people living in cities, have access to NATURE. That being said, there is more than one definition of NATURE. I’d tell you another one, but I bet you own a dictionary. If you don’t, they sell them at book stores. Field trip!
Good luck! I can’t wait to see the NATURE interpretations.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION
1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.
2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.
That is it, them’s the rules.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION
Nothing new to report. I’ll try to do better next week.
Want your own Photography 139 email subscription? Call, email, or text me and I’ll get you the hook up.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 GALLERY DIVISION
Sometimes people send me descriptions of their photos. I’ve never done anything with that information in the past. However, if you send me a description in the future, I will add it to your image in the Weekly Photo Challenge Gallery that houses all the submissions.
**************************************
That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very natural Monday!
This week I had a technology snafu, so if you emailed in a picture before the 11 AM deadline and don’t see it posted, just email it to me again and I’ll get it up. Late, but I’ll get it up.
But you didn’t come here to talk all tommyrot about technology and snafus. You just want to see the submission for PURPLE:
A solid week of submissions!
But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:
PORTRAIT! What a great theme! I think everybody knows what a PORTRAIT is, but don’t think that you have to make this a formal portrait. A group of people awkwardly posed in front of some scene from nature. You CAN do that, but you don’t have to do that. Candids work great as well! Don’t think that a PORTRAIT has to be of a human subject. Animals make great portraits. So do inanimate objects. Don’t think that a PORTRAIT has to be of a face. Think creatively and feel free to define the theme any way you see fit!

One of the smartest and most talented and most interesting people I know!
For those of you who don’t have the good fortune to know Stephanie, she is in the bunny glasses.
Unrelated, for some reason Michelle from day job made this video. Enjoy:
As always, if you are an email subscriber to this here blog, you will have to go to the website to watch the video. It is 16 seconds long and it is glorious!
It was cold and rainy in central Iowa this week. It was a tough week to get out there and get this challenge done. However, several people were able to pull it off. Kudos to them for getting a HIGH PERSPECTIVE!
But you don’t want to listen to me talk all tommyrot about participation rates, you want to see the submission for HIGH PERSPECTIVE:
Although no dudes participated this week. Where are all my dudes at? Bill? Micky? Vest? Dustin? Jesse? Dude who has yet to participate but secretly wants to participate?
But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:
WEATHER! What a great theme! A WEATHER picture could be anything weather related. The wind blowing on a tree. A cloud in the sky. A water puddle. A thermometer. A rain gauge. A weather vane. You’ll figure it out!
As always! Feel free to define the theme any way you want!
It also be noted that if you have suggestions for the next 52 themes, you’re best to start leaving your suggestions in the comments section of this here blog.

Since a few people have been asking, I am making a formal announcement.
The reasons are multiple and complicated, but it is probably your fault. If you search your heart, you know it to be true.
So there will be NO:
– Baby Got Rack Award Winning Barbecue
– Hardcore Firetub Action
– Bubbles
– Sidewalk Chalk
– Golden Retriever
– Master’s Playlist
– Cornhole
– Tent
– Stimulating Conversation
– Catching up with old friends
– No photos like the ones below
Better luck in 2018. I have the idea for that year’s invite. I just need to find some volunteers and some costumes.
Now would be a good time to check in on the Selfie Project. I’ve attempted and failed at this project 3 times now. The farthest I’ve ever made it is 116 days. I feel like this just might be the year.
Here are some of my favorites from March:
I do post these daily on Instagram. You can follow me here: @christopherdbennett
A few weeks back Micky and I hopped in his wife car and traveled to exotic North Ankeny to visit Michelle, Craig, Lily, and the newest addition to their family… Levi.
I didn’t actually getting any pictures of Levi, but here are some pictures of Lily:
I have to give Micky some props. It was amazing how quickly Lily warmed up to him. He is the toddler whisperer. A skill that will no doubt come in handy on our future snake hunting adventures.
FACELESS PORTRAIT is challenging, but still, a handful of hearty photographers gave it a whirl. But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk all tommyrot about heart. You came to see the submissions:

ANGRY seems like a pretty straight forward easy theme. It should be easy to find somebody you know that is ANGRY. Or something that makes you ANGRY.
Personally, I’m somebody that people rarely see ANGRY, but I’m told I have a “look” when I’m ANGRY. I assume that this look is what I captured in the reveal photo above.
So get out there and get in touch with your inner Hulk. Incredible, or otherwise.

MESSAGE FROM THE ROUNDBALL ORACLES DIVISION
Tonight is the national title game and there are two people still alive in the pursuit to have their name put on the List of Immortals, next to other basketball greats like Running Wolf and that missionary guy from Taiwan.
Here is what you need to know to base your rooting interests tonight:
IF North Carolina (a fine academic institution COUGH! COUGH!) wins, Paul Golden is this year’s Roundball Oracles Champ!
IF Gonzaga (a school that nearly closed in the 90s) wins, Andree Jauhari is this year’s Roundball Oracles Champ!
I know who I’m rooting to win. (Hint: It involves which one it will cost me the least amount of money to ship the trophy to…)
Good luck gentlemen!
On the other side of the coin. Congratulations (I think) go out to Shannon Bardole (for the moment) for winning this year’s The Sara! The trophy awarded to last place adult that tried really, really hard. She edged out Jill Gorshe, Corey Faust (all that hockey must be going to his brain), and Laura Miller. Laura was close to clinching a repeat. However, South Carolina’s Final Four run gave her just enough points to best Shannon, Jill, and Faust in the final standings. Well played Laura!
****************************************
That’s all I got for today, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very angry Monday!
Once again, the Madness is upon us. It is time to put your basketball knowledge to the test and try to take your place upon the list of immortals.
If you are interested in joining this year’s pool. Contact me via email at bennett@photography139.com.
Once again this year, there is no fee.
The champion will win The Roundball Oracles Trophy.
