Happy Birthday America!

This is unfortunately a little late, but Happy Independence Day to those of you that celebrate it!

Happy Independence Day - 2017

On a personal note, this was the first year that fireworks was legal in Iowa in something like 70 years. If my neighborhood the last couple of weeks is any indication of the years to come, they can go back to being illegal.

Memorial Day – 2017

I spent most of my Memorial Day enjoying my day off. Watching old war movies and grilling with the family. But the highlight of my day was seeing Nora for the first time in WAY TOO LONG! Which is completely my fault, but an error in my judgment that I will fix in the future. Hopefully on a trip to Manhattan, Kansas in July!

Here are a few pictures from our trip to the Kiddy Corral.

Nora also brought Bethany, Dae Hee, and Jim with her. Very thoughtful of her!

Happy Birthday to…

One of the smartest and most talented and most interesting people I know!

For those of you who don’t have the good fortune to know Stephanie, she is in the bunny glasses.

Unrelated, for some reason Michelle from day job made this video. Enjoy:

As always, if you are an email subscriber to this here blog, you will have to go to the website to watch the video. It is 16 seconds long and it is glorious!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day from Photography 139!

Happy Valentine's Day -2017

As this is a romantic holiday, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes from my favorite romantic movie of all time (500) DAYS OF SUMMER:

Tom works for a greeting card company.

Tom: Yeah, uh, this is… And Rhoda, no disrespect, but um, this is total sh!t.

McKenzie: Tom!

Tom: “Go for it” “You can do it”? That’s not inspirational, that’s suicidal. If pickles goes for it right there, that’s a dead cat. These are lies. We’re liars. Think about it. Why do people buy these things? It’s not ’cause they wanna say how they feel. People buy cards ’cause they can’t say how they feel or they’re afraid too. We provide the service that lets them off the hook. You know what? I say to hell with it. Let’s level with America. At least let them speak for themselves! Right? I mean, look! What-What is this? What does it say? “Congratulations on your new baby.” Right? How ’bout, “Congratulations on your new baby. Guess that’s it for hanging out. Nice knowing you.”

Vance: Sit down, Hansen.

Tom: How bout this one, with all the pretty hearts on the front? I think I know where this ones going. Yep! “Happy Valentines Day, sweetheart. I love you.” That sweet? Ain’t love grand? This is exactly what I’m talking about. What does that even mean, “love”? Do you know? Do you? Anybody?

McKenzie: Tom…

Tom: If somebody gave me this card, Mr. Vance, I would eat it. It’s these cards, and the movies and the pop songs, they’re to blame for all the lies and the heartache, everything. We’re responsible. *I’m responsible.* I think we do a bad thing here. People should be able to say how they feel, how they really feel, not you know, some words that some stranger put in their mouths. Words like “love”… that don’t mean anything. Sorry, I’m sorry. I, uh… I quit. I’m… There’s enough bullsh!t in the world without my help.

Think I’m going to watch that movie right now!

To a Great 2017!

Pretend like I published this on January 1, just like I meant to do.

It is that day at Photography 139 Headquarters where we take down our old Photography 139 Calendar and put it in the trunk with many of the other remnants of our past.

We like to think that 2016 was a successful year for Photography 139 and I’d like to thank everybody that was responsible for making it appear so.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I didn’t get around to wishing people Happy Thanksgiving this year through my normal channels. So, if you are used to getting some kind of message from me on Thanksgiving, Easter, or Christmas (for example) but didn’t get anything from me this year… don’t lose heart. Nobody didn’t get nothin’ from me this year. (I think that is the proper number of negatives.) No real good excuse. I could say that I was busy, but everybody can say that. I mean except for the people that did wish me Happy Thanksgiving. I am in the debt of those people and I will swear to do better next holiday that matters.

So let me take this time to belatedly wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! In the laziest way possible.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

The inflatable turkey (a multiple child acknowledged COOL decoration) came out of semi-retierement and graced the entrance of my church for our annual Free Community Dinner.

Free Thanksgiving Dinner

Do you need a place to get a good Thanksgiving meal? I know a place. Check out the picture below:

You can come to my church between 11-1 and we’ll hook you up.

If you don’t know where we’re located, it is easy to find. The Boone First United Methodist Church is located at:

703 Arden Street
Boone, IA 50036

It is a big red brick church located directly east of the Ericson Public Library. On the corner of 7th and Arden. Arden is 1 block east of Greene Street.

We do serve people in shifts because we are expecting to break our record of over 400 people this year. So calling and making a reservation at 432-4660 is appreciated, but not necessary.

If you are wondering if I’ll be there, the answer is “Yes”. At least for part of the day. I’m going to be there to photograph part of the day because I was told all of our old photos include some of our church’s saints that have passed on. So I’ll be there to photograph it until at least the Iowa State basketball game starts… or longer if I can figure out how to watch the game there.

You should know, I’m pretty good about figuring out how to watch Iowa State sports wherever I’m at. I just need a really long ethernet cable.

I also think I’m going to bring my inflatable turkey to add to the merriment. That’s how I roll.

Hope to see some of you there!

Happy Jayoween

The Saturday before Halloween Jay and I got together for our annual tradition of watching horror movies and carving pumpkins. This year Willy joined us.

This year Jay carved a clown for my Mom:

My pumpkin will remain unpictured.
