With the Beefcake Pantyhose

You can look at this collection of losers for RED from the WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE in a couple of different ways.

Either I just wanted an excuse more pictures of my dog.

OR

Well that is interesting.

You see, there is a setting on my camera that drops out all other colors but red. It is far from 100%, but it creates interesting images.

2013 Christmas Calendar

This is a look back at the photos from the calendar I gave as Christmas gifts in 2012. You’ll see many of the same images from the flower calendar. I have no doubts.

I’ve never done what one would call market research, but I did make a change to the 2015 calendar and then made a change back in the 2016 calendar. That is this. The 2015 calendar has big numbers for the dates. I found this to be aesthetically pleasing. However, some feedback I got was that this made it more difficult to write on the calendar. Therefore, I changed back to small numbers for the 2016 calendar.

I’ve also been asked why I don’t include birthdays or “different holidays” any longer. The reason for that is because of the diverse audience that the Photography 139 Calendar now reaches, I don’t know how many of those people need to know the date my nephew Brandon’s birthday (December 4). However, I could probably add International Talk Like A Pirate Day back to the calendar.

I’ve already stated that I’m going to go back to diversifying the subject matter of the 2017 calendar. I have this glorious plan of taking each photo for the 2017 calendar during the corresponding month of 2016. This means that my plan of going back to my plan of lining up certain subjects with certain months will probably go to the wayside. Sorry anybody that was getting jacked up for a frog in February of 2017. I’ll try to get a frog somewhere else… like April.

Any way, please leave any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas in the comments section. I might not act on them, but you don’t know until you try.

2009

Time to take another stroll down memory lane. This was the last time I appeared in a calendar. Probably will be the last time I ever appear in a calendar.

The last day to order a 2016 Photography 139 Calendar is approaching quickly. Very quickly.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 14 – BLACK AND WHITE

I don’t think that it is a secret to anybody that knows me at all that black and white photography is my true photographic love. And we all know that true love is the greatest thing in the world – except for a nice MLT – mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomatoes are ripe.

But I digress.

The point is I’ve been looking forward to this week for 13 weeks now! Let’s see the submissions.

WEEK 14 - BLACK AND WHITE - BECKY PERKOVICH
Becky Perkovich

WEEK 14 - BLACK AND WHITE - ANGIE DEWAARD

WEEK 14 - BLACK AND WHITE - KIM BARKER 1

WEEK 14 - BLACK AND WHITE - CHRISTOPHER D. BENNETT

WEEK 14 - BLACK AND WHITE - MIKE VEST
Mike Vest

If it was up to me, I would’ve thrown in BLACK AND WHITE as a category 4 or 5 times. Unfortunately, it just dawned on me that it is up to me. Maybe next year.

But why dwell on the past, when we have the future to look forward to? Let us look at this week’s theme…

WEEK 15 - FRAMED
FRAMED

This category doesn’t necessarily mean an object inside of a literal frame. Think of this as an object that your view is framed by other objects. Or think of this any way that you like.

MESSAGE FROM PHOTOGRAPHY 139’S SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION.

Big time welcomes are due to not ONE, but TWO new email subscribers. So give BIG welcomes to new Photography 139 email subscribers Dawn Krause AND Joe Duff. I believe Joe to be our first subscriber from Texas! Going global… soon!

I would normally tell you that if you see them on the streets to give them a knowing glance AND don’t be shy about showing them the secret Photography 139 handshake. However, the Secret Handshake Division has yet to finalize the handshake. So at this time the knowing glance will have to suffice.

Welcome aboard Joe and Dawn. I know you shall fare well!

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE – WEEK 10 – WORK

There was a bit of a falloff in participation this week, but that was to be expected. I fear this week’s theme will really scare people. That is okay, everybody needs to get out of the comfort zones once in a while.

This week’s submissions:

WEEK 10 - WORK - CARLA STENSLAND
Carla Stensland

WEEK 10 - WORK - KIM BARKER
Kim Barker

WEEK 10 - WORK - LAURA MILLER
Laura Miller

WEEK 10 - WORK - MICHELLE HAUPT
Michelle Haupt

WEEK 10 - WORK - MIKE VEST
Mike Vest

WEEK 10 - WORK - SHANNON BARDOLE
Shannon Bardole

WEEK 10 - WORK - CHRISTOPHER D. BENNETT
Christopher D. Bennett

Angie DeWaard

WEEK 10 - WORK - BECKY PERKOVICH
Becky Perkovich

This brings us to the time where we reveal this week’s theme…

WEEK 11 - RELIGION
RELIGION!

I told you it would be something that isn’t in everybody’s comfort zone. However, I hope there is still a good amount of submissions.

Time for a definition:

religion – noun – a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

And of course… time for a couple of housekeeping notes from PHOTOGRAPHY 139’S SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION.

Michael Houlihan has become the latest person to show taste, class and sophistication by becoming a Photography 139 subscriber. So if you see Michael prowling the mean streets of Ames, Iowa you can give him a knowing glance and of course, the super secret Photography 139 handshake.*

Other sidenote, only 1 person responded positively to the return of the Proust Questionnaire, therefore it will not be making a December return. Take that Proust!

*A loyal subscriber has volunteered to create a Photography 139 handshake. They will then run their creation by my handshake expert. It is possible, that there will be a video on how to do the handshake in the nearish future.

Incidental

Here are a few pictures I like that come from New Toy, but don’t fit into any particular narrative.

The New Toy has come in handy now and again. I think it is a keeper.

Taco Tailgate

In honor of Tacoctober a few friends from the mine and I held a taco tailgate before the Iowa State-Texas Christian football match recently. It seemed like a good time to squeeze off a few shots on the new toy.

Here are a few shots from Taco Tailgate 2015:

Since it is well established how I feel about koozies, my chums made sure I got one. Any way, anybody want a bottle koozie?

Jorge and Joe, placing the goodness on the grill.

More goodness.

Taco goodness!

Most of the tailgating equipment in years past has been provided by the Brog Frog Tailgating Company. Since they have closed down for business, I had to scramble for equipment this year. I found this table in my Mom’s garage. It is the perfect size for the trunk of my car.

Plans are already in motion for Taco Tailgate 2016.Play your cards right, you might just wrangle an invite. We are going to add a second taco recipe and hopefully upgrade some of our equipment. High on the want list is a tailgating canopy and a better grill. The fight goes on.

Insta

Feel like revisiting my Instagram account. It has been a long, long, time.

Obviously, if you follow me on Instagram, like a boss, you’ve already experienced these.

A few of my favorites:

That was fun! We’ll have to do that again sometime!

Phonetos – Vol. 1

Although I haven’t touched the real camera lately, I have sorta documented some stuff with my cruddy camera on my phone. Thought I would post some of those from the last few months. Remember, these are taken with a cruddy camera phone.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen many of these. Feel free to carry on.
