Help Me Make it Through the Night

Today is Scott’s birthday, so I need to wish him a happy birthday:

June 15
Happy birthday Scott!

I hope you have an amazing birthday filled with great food and all the Dave music you can handle. I hope I can make an appearance at Degtoberfest or whatever it is called this year on Saturday!

+++++++

Today is also Sara’s birthday, so I have to wish her a happy birthday!

June 11
Happy birthday Sara!

I hope it is an amazing birthday filled with lots of Brandi Carlile music, of course!

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin’ soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin’ light
All I’m takin’ is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don’t care who’s right or wrong
I don’t try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
‘Cause tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow’s out of sight
And it’s sad to be alone

Help me make it through the night

I don’t care who’s right or wrong
I don’t try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
For tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow’s out of sight
And it’s sad to be alone

Help me make it through the night

I don’t want to be alone
Help me make it through the night
-Written by Kris Kristofferson

This Thursday’s song is an homage to the great Kris Kristofferson who passed away earlier this week. One of the greatest songwriters ever. This song was inspired by a Frank Sinatra quote.

From the Wiki:

Kris Kristofferson said that he got the inspiration for the song from an Esquire Magazine interview with Frank Sinatra. When asked what he believed in, Frank replied, “Booze, broads, or a bible…whatever helps me make it through the night.

The list of bangers he wrote is almost endless:

+ To Beat the Devil
+ Me and Bobb McGee
+ For the Good Times
+ Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down
+ Silver Tongued Devil and I
+ Lovin’ Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again)
+ The Pilgrim, Chapter 33 – “wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and jean/Wearin’ yesterday’s misfortunes like a smile”
+ Why Me
+ Who’s to Bless and Who’s to Blame
+ Stranger
+ Here Comes That Rainbow Again
+ Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down
+ Please Don’t Tell Me How the Story Ends

The list goes on and on. Just feel I need to share the lyrics of one more of my favorite songs, cause I think it’s message is timeless.

“Jesus Was A Capricorn”

Jesus was a Capricorn
He ate organic food
He believed in love and peace
And never wore no shoes

Long hair, beard and sandals
And a funky bunch of friends
Reckon may just nail Him up
If He come down again

‘Cause everybody’s gotta have somebody to look down on
Prove they can be better than at any time they please
Someone doin’ somethin’ dirty, decent folks can frown on
You can’t find nobody else, then help yourself to me

Get back, John

Eggheads cursin’, rednecks cussin’
Hippies for their hair
Others laugh at straights who laugh at
Freaks who laugh at square

Some folks hate the Whites
Who hate the Blacks who hate the Klan
Most of us hate anything that
We don’t understand

‘Cause everybody’s gotta have somebody to look down on
Prove they can be better than at any time they please
Someone doin’ somethin’ dirty, decent folks can frown on
But you can’t find nobody else, then help yourself to me

Help yourself brother
Help yourself Help yourself brother

I will miss Kris Kristofferson and I didn’t even mention the masterpiece that is the movie CONVOY!

But Thursdays are for flowers. This is a very small batch of flower pictures. I took these in my yard on June 2.
