Was feeling another Labi Siffre song this week. Truly one of the most unique and talented musicians ever.
Maybe you’ve never heard this song, which is a crying shame if you ask me. But you’ve heard parts of it. The riff for it was sampled by Eminem for “My Name Is”. The riff is so tasty, that Eminem agreed to remove some lyrics from the song to get Labi’s permission to sample it.

The song contains an interpolation from Labi Siffre’s track “I Got The…” from his 1975 album Remember My Song. Siffre, who is openly gay, said in a 2012 interview that he refused to approve the usage until certain sexist and homophobic lyrics were removed from the song: “Dissing the victims of bigotry – women as bitches, homosexuals as faggots – is lazy writing. Diss the bigots not their victims.”

Is orange your favorite color?
Yeah, it probably is. Oddly enough, it’s the most used color in our house. The entire living room/kitchen/dining room area is blues and orange.
We got a room finished in the basement during COVID, made into a movie room. I wanted something that was bright and cheery when the lights were on, but muted and didn’t have glare when the lights were low, so I got a sort of burnt orange. I wasn’t home when the gal opened the paint gallon to start painting the room, but Jon was. I guess she immediately called the boss, and the conversation went something like this:
Her: “The paint gallon is only orange. Are there supposed to be more?”
Boss: “No, that’s it.”
Her: “So, does she want the entire room orange?”
Boss: “Yep, the whole thing.”
Her: “I’ll paint it, but that’s going to look TERRIBLE.”
…Then two days later when it was done, Jon heard her call the boss and say how good it actually looked. So, very long story short, I really love orange.
I guess it was also one of the three colors of my school board campaign, and is one of the colors on my website. Yeah, I never really put too fine a point on it before, but I guess it’s probably orange.
Too bad I can’t wear it; I look terrible in orange.
