Ubi Caritas

Where charity and love are, God is there.
Love of Christ has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice in Him and be glad.
Let us fear, and let us love the living God.
And from a sincere heart let us love one.
Where charity and love are, God is there.
At the same time, therefore, are gathered into one:
Lest we be divided in mind, let us beware.
Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease.
And in the midst of us be Christ our God.
Where charity and love are, God is there.
At the same time we see that with the saints also,
Thy face in glory, O Christ our God:
The joy that is immense and good, Unto the
World without end. Amen.

Gregorian Chant – Translated to English

We all know that Thursday’s are for flowers, but this is also Maundy Thursday. So if you are looking for a Maundy Thursday service because your are curious or because your church doesn’t have one I am inviting you to come to Boone First United Methodist Church for our Maundy Thursday Service.

If you don’t know where we are located, you can find us here:

Boone First United Methodist Church
703 Arden Street
Boone, Iowa

But maybe you don’t even know what this Maundy Thursday is all about. Don’t worry, I’ll feed you baby birds.

Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.”

As recorded in John’s gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).

34 “I’m giving you a new commandment: Love each other in the same way that I have loved you. 35 Everyone will know that you are my disciples because of your love for each other.”

But this Thursday is also for flowers. At the end of last Thursday’s flowertography session I indicated that this Thursday’s collection would be pictures taken in my yard. That ended up being incorrect. This flowertography session happened in a flowerbed in Maquoketa Caves State Park. We stopped there on the Bluff Lake Road Trip last year to kill a bit of time before Bluff Lake Catfish Farm opened up.

Here are the pictures:
