The Song of Good Hope

If we’re gonna make it
Cross this river alive
You need to think like a boat
And go with the tide
And I known where you’ve been
Has really left you in doubt
Of ever finding a harbour
Of figuring this out

And you’re gonna need, all the help you can get
So lift up your arms now, and reach for it
And reach for it

And take your time babe
It’s not as bad as it seemed
You’ll be fine babe
It’s just some rivers and streams
In between, you and where you want to be

Watch the signs now
You’ll know what they mean
You’ll be fine now
Just stay close to me
And may good hope, walk with you through everything

Take your time babe
It’s not as bad as it seems
You’ll be fine babe
It’s just some rivers and streams
In between, you and where you want to be

And watch the signs now
You’ll know what they mean
You’ll be fine now
Just stay close to me
And may good hope, walk with you through everything
May the song of good hope, walk with you through everything

Written by Glen Hansard

I’m rarely touched that much when celebrities die. But last week my favorite or second favorite musician depending on the day passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident.

I got several messages throughout the day from people letting me know that Glen Hansard had passed away. It was tragic and sad. Not many better people have ever tread this earth. I was thankful that last year Bethany and I had went to see him in concert with Marketa Irglova.

He was the star of one of my favorite movies, ONCE. As you may recall last year when I was in Ireland I went to see many of the filming locations. He was the performer of many of my favorite songs. “Say It To Me Now” is just one example. He gave one of my favorite Oscar acceptance speeches, which he ended with simply, “Make art. Make art.” Which is some of the best advice a person can give.

But after he passed, my social media feeds were filled with so many tremendous stories about what an incredible human being he was. How many lives he had changed and touched. It sounded like he may have been an even better human being than he was a musician.

I chose this song for today’s blog post because Marketa Irglova and Eddie Vedder performed it at Glen’s funeral the other day. It was such a sad day, but such a beautiful way to remember an incredible musician and an incredible human being.

But Thursdays are for flowers. This Thursday’s flowertography session took place in Pella:
