I don’t remember the timeline
Just December and the eastern skyline
It was just my time to go
It wasn’t even a cold night
Disappointed in the northern nights
I always thought there’d be snow400 people on a broken wheel
When the plane touched down in a concrete minefield
I guess we all made it out okay
Following the streets to a sliver of blue
You can lose the sky and it can lose you too
But you get a little lost to find your wayI’m living in a war with time
I could still reach out and touch you
And I wish I didn’t know the things I know
I’m standing in an open door
None of it was overrated
And I’m never gonna wanna let you go
But I want you to go
Don’t even ask me, just goI don’t remember the faces
Just the anger and the haunted places
So alive I could taste it on the rain
Even the roaches come from somewhere
Leaving a stain where the angels fell
In the city where no one knows your nameI’m living in a war with time
I could still reach out and touch you
And I wish I didn’t know the things I know
I’m standing in an open door
None of it was overrated
And I’m never gonna wanna let you go
But I want you to go
Don’t even ask me, just go
Ooh, oh-ohHold their eyes, make sure they know
Stand your ground but see the soul
Beneath the pain and broken home
With every drop of rain and bone
Square your shoulders, turn to stone
Slowly shake your head for no
When you find yourself alone
Retrace your steps and come back homeI’m living in a war with time
I could still reach out and touch you
And I wish I didn’t know the things I know
I’m standing in an open door
None of it was overrated
And I’m never gonna wanna let you goBut I want you to go

I want you to go (I know you wanted me to)
And I want you to go (go)
I want you to go
Don’t even ask me, just go
The 4th song from Brandi Carlile’s incredible new album “Returning to Myself”.
But Thursdays are for flowers and this flowertography session took place next to the Boone County Courthouse. It involves what is one of my least favorite flowers, the iris. You are probably just happy that it isn’t another collection of ants on peonies. Don’t get too comfortable though. We are not done with peonies. For some reason of the entire flowertography world this year, peonies were my muse. But these aren’t peonies, these are irises. Iris Fun Fact: They are Jen’s favorite flower.
Here is this year’s “Mad with Joy” Collection:
Next Thursday’s flowertography session will involve peonies again, but it just very well might be the last peony collection until they bloom again next year.

I’m with you on irises – not my favorite. Nor are most lilies, but to a lesser degree. I think they both just look sort of sad?
Definitely not with you on lilies. One of my favorite flowers. Top 5. But I’m not here to give you a Flower Power Rankings. Irises aren’t completely useless though. They taste bad so deer won’t eat them, so if you put them around flowers that are pretty, you can use them as a buffer to prevent deer from eating them. I haven’t done this because while there are deer in my neighborhood, there isn’t enough to eat my flowers. Rabbits on the other hand are thieving varmints. You can try to keep them away with mothballs, but I’ve never tried that either. Maybe next year.
That’s fair on lilies. I think I’ve just usually gotten them for funerals, and so it makes my association with them really sad. Ostensibly, they’re very pretty! We do have some around our house because even I can’t kill them. But just the funeral thing gets me.
