Earl J. Woodcock, 80, of Boone, IA, passed away at his home at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Courtyard Terrace in Boone on Friday morning, August 27, 2010 where he and his wife have resided since February of 2008.
He was born on September 11, 1929 in Coal Springs, SD, the son of Earl and Myrtle (Butler) Woodcock.
On February 6, 1956, he married Viola Dacus at the Assembly of God Church in Scobey, MT.
Earl was a bookkeeper for Hallet Construction and Zontelli Construction Company for a number of years. He was later employed at Pat Clemons as a grounds keeper and at Iowa State University in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953; was a volunteer fireman in Crosby, MN for 20 years; the American Legion; and was a life time member of the Forty and Eight Club. Earl enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.
His parents, Myrtle and Earl Woodcock, and seven siblings preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Vi of Boone; two sons Bruce Woodcock and Tim Woodcock both of Tucson, AZ; two daughters Cheryl Kantor of Tucson, AZ and Tammy Swenson and husband Paul of Burke, VA; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister Erlene Ogg of Vancouver, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl’s request was to be cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Monday morning, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating.
Interment of the remains will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the First United Methodist Church.
