Another solid week of submissions!

But enough dwelling on the past. Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

WEEK 46 - ART
ART!

What is ART? I can’t define it but I know it when I see it.

Get out there and get a picture of your favorite sculpture or mural or stained glass window. Take a picture of somebody creating art. Somebody doing art. Something that is used to make art. Make you are arrogant enough to think any time you click the shutter release you make ART. I’m not here to judge. As always, though define the theme any way that you want. Maybe you know a guy named Art, I wish I did.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 RULES DIVISION

1. The picture has to be taken the week of the theme. This isn’t a curate your pictures challenge. This is a get your butt off the couch (my personal experience) and put your camera in your hands challenge. Don’t send me a picture of you next to the Eiffel Tower, when I know you were in Iowa all week. I will point out that I have let that slide some in the past. I will not in the future. Since it is literally about the only rule.

2. Your submission needs to be emailed to bennett@photography139.com by 11 AM on the Monday of the challenge. It should be pointed out that this blog auto-publishes at 12:01 on Mondays. So it wouldn’t hurt to get your picture in earlier.

That is it, them’s the rules.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHY 139 SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION DIVISION

Nothing new to report. Nobody new has displayed their class, taste, and sophistication by signing up for a Photography 139 email subscription. I’ll try to do better next week.

That’s all I got, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will commune right here again next Monday. Hopefully it will be a very artistic Monday.

  1. What I think is weird it that all of you found the exact same color hibiscus. Although the hibiscus that is in my front yard is that color. So maybe it is the most common color for this time of year.

  2. My Mom actually gave it to me. Then we dug a hole the ground. Took it out of the pot that it came in and put it in the ground. Heavily saturated the ground with water. Water it every night. With all the other flowers.

Oh, you might mean my picture.

Very half-assed. I was originally going to use a picture of a radish cut into the shape of a rose, but then I didn’t like that. So then I was actually going to pick some lilies and put them in a vase and do a stark lighting thing in the studio. Then I started watching this documentary on George Takei on Netflix and before I knew it, it was almost time to go to the olde Cinemark to see PLANET OF THE APES.

I tried a window that I have outside but I couldn’t get the water to bubble properly on the window. It appears I’m out of Rain-X. (Which helps make big water droplets,) So I went inside and grabbed the front of a CD case and misted it with my garden hose.

Jesse held the CD case because it is really hard to do that steady with one hand and a camera. Then it was a matter of finding angles.

If you look closely, you can see some of the scratches in the CD case.

Gazinnia is the type of flower. In case you are wondering. One of my favorite annuals.

  3. They definitely have a good sounds. I dig it.

Are you familiar with Jon Lajoie’s new serious album?

  4. I kind of thought you might like them. Very good in concert.

No, but I’m going to go search for it now! Is YouTube the best place to start? Or is it on Tidal or something like that solely?

  5. I’d love to see him in concert, since I haven’t been to any concerts all year. (Very jealous of you in that vein.) But it doesn’t look like he is touring with this music.

Maybe for the best. The crowd would probably consist of stunted adult frat boys yelling “Go Taco!”.

  6. I have a love-hate relationship with concerts. I love live music, in its rawest form when everyone is enjoying it.

However, I get claustrophobic in crowds, especially when it’s hot (I think it’s because I’m so short).

Yeah, that sounds utterly unenjoyable from the crowd standpoint. I also sort of dislike a lot of people.
