One of my goals this year was to hit the Valley Junction Farmer’s Market. I had heard that it was almost as good as the Downtown Des Moines Farmer’s Market. Not going to mince words. The people that say that are seriously deranged. I’m not saying I wouldn’t go back. Cause I definitely would go back. But I would lower my expectations for the “Farmer’s Market” and see it more as a weekly small town festival. I would hit it up for the cool stores that are in Valley Junction. For the large sampling of food trucks. For the music.
Jay went with me and we definitely hit up some good food. Also some very bad food. Like some of the worst food either of us have ever had.
Here are some pictures from the trip:
I tried to talk Logan into going to entering. I even talked to the guy holding the competition.
1 of Jay’s foods was dumplings. These were amazing!
No lies. One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. Period.
I might have licked this wrapper.
If you know me at all, you know I LOVE onion rings.
These were the worst onion rings I’ve ever had in my life.
Jay got some fried carrots They were cold and the only thing worse than the onion rings that I’ve eaten this year.
I tried, but I couldn’t bring myself to finish them. Even with Jay’s help.
So to recap. I ate The Journal From the Hot of The Presses Food Truck.
Described on their menu as:
Sourdough/Turkey/Ham/Bacon/Tomato/Pickle/Mayo/Yellow Cheese
It costs $14 and was worth every cent. If I saw them set up I would head straight for it. Quick, fast and in a hurry.
From the Ring King food truck I got onion rings.
They cost $7. They were absolutely god awful. Dry. Cold. Flavorless. I couldn’t even finish them. I would not go back. If they were the only food truck at an event I would choose to starve.
Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve the Madrid Labor Day Festival.
