Back on April 19, I had a big photography day. I went to Pella to do a little tulip flowertography. And I closed out the day at Iowa State University taking pictures of Virgil, the owl living in the Lagomarcino courtyard. But in between those two photo sessions, I went to the Capitol grounds and attended a pro-democracy rally. This one was the Mutual Aid Rally. Something different about this rally was it actually collected donations for area food banks. Something that was needed then, but is definitely needed now as the current regime in Washington is efforting to starve out poor people so they can give billionaires even more undeserved tax cuts.
With our economy circling the drain, the price of food out of control and not looking to improve any time soon, and the people in power in DC fighting to NOT pay SNAP benefits if you are a person that has been blessed, don’t forget to donate to your local food banks. Remember that you were blessed by God not to hoard, but to bless others.
Remember I Timothy 6:17-18:
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
NIV
Here is the first collection of images from the Mutual Aid Rally:
If you or somebody you know is struggling with food insecurity, for the rest of the week Hy-Vee is providing $3 meals for next few nights. Children under the age of 12 are free.
Also El Jefe in Ames is providing free Community Meals on Mondays in November.
Roni’s Mac Bar is offering free kids meals until SNAP benefits are restored.
Taco John’s in Ames is offering a free “community special”. Free meals feature a bean or beef burrito along with an order of potato oles. One meal is available per person for those who order a “Community Special.” No questions asked.
If you are in a place to help others, Fareway will match monetary donations, with every dollar being doubled and going to purchase food for local pantries.
