This picture is the ocean view looking back from the ocean view of the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. If I was forced to pick my favorite part of the Ireland trip, I would probably pick the Giant’s Causeway. The thing about Ireland is that every single day I would see something and think, this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Outside of Hilton Coliseum and Jack Trice Stadium, obviously. I talked about this with Willy, who is obviously a much bigger world traveler than I am and we were coming up with lists of the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen. Or place might be a better description. His #1 was the Grand Canyon and 1B was the Straits of Gibraltar. I’m not 100% sure my #1 would be the Giant’s Causeway. But off the top of my head, I can’t think of a more beautiful place I’ve seen. This picture was selected for March because Ireland and Saint Patrick’s Day! I could have used a picture from Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, but to be honest I’ve barely looked at those images.

Tomorrow I will reveal the April image.

Normally I like to get my reviews of my Iowa State Fair food experiences out as soon after the fair as possible, but this year I went straight into Ireland pictures for our Sunday food adventures. That was partially because I was so excited about the Ireland trip, but the other part was that the State Fair food was very underwhelming this year. In particular the finalists for Best New Fair Food were very mid at best. So picking the best of the 3 was hardly a challenge.

Here are pictures from my first trip to the Iowa State Fair with the Gorshes:

Iowa State Fair Photography Salon

Those were the entries chosen for display from my friends and family. A great collection.

This is actually a self-portrait.

In line for Best New Fair Food Finalist #1.

It was a long line and a bit of a wait.

Winn & Sara’s Kitchen won Best New Fair Food in 2024.

The fried goodness!

Another finalist was the Scotcheroo Shake. I didn’t have it this trip, but Evie and Connor did.

Evie looks pretty pumped for her shake.

After the shakes we finished a 3 year trek to visit Snakes Alive!

I got a shake for the road, just not of the Scotcheroo variety.

I’m not going to waste too many words on the Bacon Chicken Ranch Eggrolls. Nor am I going to keep you in suspense. of the 3 Best New Fair Food Finalists, only one was even good. One was mid. The other was atrocious. The one that was good was the Bacon Chicken Ranch Eggrolls. It was easily my winner for Best New Fair Food (that was also a finalist). It would also win the popular vote, not just mine. I didn’t like it as much as I liked their winner from last year, the Bacon Cheeseburger Eggrolls. But they were definitely good. In a pinch, I would get them again.

Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve my 2nd trip to the Iowa State Fair.
