Recently the Iowa Beef Council announced the finalists for the 2026 Iowa’s Best Burger Contest. Here is a look at the map they put out:

There are a ton of them that are pretty dang close to my front door and considering that I’m about out of food adventures to share, I should probably start visiting some of these because I have never eaten at a single one of these. Not a single one! I have failed you and I more importantly, I have failed me.
I recently made a road trip with Jay to Omaha to visit Bill for his birthday. Along the way we stopped in Council Bluffs to cross a 2026 bucket list ice cream joint off my list. In fact, there are actually 2 ice cream joints in Council Bluffs on my bucket list. The one I was able to cross off on this trip was Christy Creme.
Here are some pictures from the trip:

Look at the price of gas before the utterly pointless Iran War!

Lucky or a moment of providence, but the Flavor of the Day was raspberry!

Also got an order of onion rings since it was going to be several hours between breakfast and lunch.

Jay got an order of fries.

Raspberry goodness!

Crinkle cut! The best cut of the French fry world!

Christy Creme better than Krispy Kreme!

After ice cream we met up with Bill and went to the SAC Museum.

We didn’t eat here, but that will be rectified the next time I visit Bill!

Pizza from Felix and Oscar’s from Bill’s Birthday lunch! Delicious!

Logan thought it was weird that Bill had a picture of me on his wall. Which means none of Logan’s friends have a picture of him on their walls. That makes me really sad for Logan.

Kind of a cruddy selfie taken in Audubon on the way back. But I love this mural and the store it adorns looks like my kind of store.

Kind of agree. The world has enough princesses. Past quota probably.
THE VERDICT?
You know I have the Ted Lasso policy on ice cream:
Roy: Told my niece I might not be playing. She asked if we could go get ice cream.
– Ted Lasso Season 01, Episode 9 – All Apologies
Ted: Well, hey, at least you had someone you could talk to, right? How was the ice cream?
Roy: Good. It’s fu*king ice cream.
Ted: Yeah, right? Ice cream’s the best. It’s kinda like seeing Billy Joel perform live, you know? It never disappoints. It does give me the toots though. The ice cream, not Billy Joel.
Except ice cream doesn’t give me the toots. At least not at this point in my life. As for TED LASSO. If you haven’t watched TED LASSO… I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you’ve been watching television wrong. Just plain wrong.
As for the onion rings. They were good, but nothing to write home about. And I didn’t. I definitely did not write home about them. I may have texted a few pictures to some choice individuals, but I definitely did not write anybody about them.
Would I go back?
I would definitely go back! It is ice cream! It never disappoints! However, next time I drive through Council Bluffs (the discipline I’ve shown to not call it Counciltucky in this post should be legendary) I will cross off the other 2026 Bucket List place in Council Bluffs. Doozie’s.
Christy Creme is located at:
2583 N Broadway (The old Lincoln Highway)
Council Bluffs, Iowa
- HOURS
- SUNDAY: 11 AM – 10 PM
- MONDAY – SATURDAY: 10 AM – 10 PM
Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve that #WAFFLELIFE. It is actually the last food adventure I have in the hopper. That means I have 13 days to have a new food adventure. Good thing I have 10 ideas from the top of this post.
