ISF: 08/12/2025 – Pioneer Hall

Before we get into the final collection of images from my day at the Iowa State Fair with Tall & Meaty, I need to acknowledge that today is International Workers Day. I normally might do a bigger write up on it and share a picture that I thought captured some essence of the day. But these posts that publish while away from home for a decent stretch of time are held together with twine and ceiling wax.

So it is sufficient to say that billionaires shouldn’t exist. And taking health care away from millions of Americans and closing hundreds of rural hospitals to pay for a tax cut for billionaires is the height of evil.

This is the final collection of images from this trip centers mostly around Pioneer Hall. I know it isn’t one of the sexiest buildings at the Iowa State Fair but it is one that always has a special place in my heart. I spent many an hour at Pioneer Hall as my parents used to volunteer there and set up tables and sold stuff from the old Bennett Antiques store.

Here is the final collection of pictures:

If you look closely at the 2nd picture I took of Logan taking a picture of the sawing contest you will see Nathanial in the background taking a picture of me taking a picture of Logan taking a picture of the sawing contest. Somewhere out there, that photography inception pictures exists.

But speaking of my parents and the State Fair and not being billionaires, whenever I go to Pioneer Hall another memory that comes over me is that when Teresa, Carla, and I were kids. We didn’t eat at the food stands at the Fair. Our Mom packed a picnic and we go out to the parking lot and eat it in the car.

I made one more trip to the Fair. I’ll start sharing those pictures next Friday.
