Tenderloining: Belle Plaine Field Work

On my way back from the Eclipse Road Trip I stopped in Belle Plaine to cross another thing off my list of things I want to do in 2024. That was to eat at the historic Lincoln Cafe. It isn’t a restaurant that necessarily has a reputation for any particular food item, but I wanted to experience an old Lincoln Highway roadside diner that has been open since 1928. So I went with my old standby, the tenderloin.

Here are some pictures:

Since I’ve eaten there, I watched an episode of “Iowa Road Trip” where they stopped at the Lincoln Cafe. From there I learned that their Beer Battered Chicken Strips are what they are known for. If I ever make it back, I’ll have to give them a try.

The verdict, the food was really good. It wasn’t spectacular. I would definitely go back, but I don’t know I would seek it out. Except maybe to try those Beer Battered Chicken Strips. But they got many of the tenderloin essentials right. The bun was toasted. The meat to bun ratio was pretty close to spot on. If there was anything to complaint about, it was a little thin. The breading a little bland.

The onion rings were spot on! The chicken noodle soup was also solid!

You can find the Lincoln Cafe here:

The next food adventure will involve a trip to Williamson.

But…

How is my efforting to live a healthy lifestyle going?

This week my weight went down 0.3 pounds. I am now down 38.3 pounds since starting Noom. I am 1.3 pounds away from reaching my May 30 goal. 16.3 pounds away from my ultimate goal weight*.

I ate incredibly unhealthy over my birthday weekend. I was actually down over 3 pounds heading into the weekend. But I over the weekend I ate ice cream. I ate pizza. I ate a tenderloin. I ate nachos. I ate fried cheese curds. I ate nachos. I drank pop. Happy birthday to me.

But weight isn’t the only measure (or even the most important measure) of positive results. My exercise activity hasn’t been great the last 10 days or so. Ever since getting Bokeh, I don’t leave my house for very long stretches. Plus I cam back with New Orleans with some nagging congestion that really didn’t go away until maybe Wednesday or Thursday. I’m getting other forms of exercise with her though. Puppies do have lots of energy!

Since I started using Fitbit on February 20, 2024 (89 days) I’ve:

+ Taken 1,142,634 steps
+ Averaged 9,069 steps a day for the last 7 days
+ Walked 527.70 miles
+ Averaged walking 5.92 miles a day

I did earn a new Fitbit Badge this week:

WooHoo!

That is all to report for now.
