I’m always angling to find the best place to take pictures of the ISUCFVMB Step Show. I always try to make it and I’m never 100% satisfied with my pictures. This time I was as close as I’ve been and pretty much was straight on with the show. Which worked for the most part, but there were times that members of the ISUCFVMB staff would stand right in front of me. From their official videographers to the Voice of the ISUCFVMB. However, I still got some decent pictures methinks.
This was a bittersweet Step Show. It marked the last appearance by retiring head of the Iowa State Alumni Association, Jeff Johnson. He was always there to lead the crowd in cheering for part of the show. Whomever takes over for him will have some gigantic shoes to fill!

I keep thinking I’m going to get a picture to enter at the State Fair from one of these shows. But I don’t know I’ve gotten it yet.
For the Arizona game I took more from the side. But I think where these are taken from and then a little to the south might be the sweet spot. But have to get there nice and early to get a good spot.
I was thinking that a lot of these would do great at State Fair – I am partial to the guy beating his chest in the drum line! This is definitely the best angle you’ve had to date.
Yeah, that is one of the main ones I’m trying to get a picture of. Have you ever been to the Step Show, so do you understand what is going on in the screaming drummer picture?
I’ve walked by it, but was with fun haters who didn’t want to stop, so I’ve never seen it and don’t know what’s going on there! So even as someone who doesn’t know, it’s a great photo.
I meant to say earlier – I also think the one of the cheerleader with the hair spinning is fantastic.
You obviously need to hang out with better people then.
The drummer that is screaming is the part of the show where the drumline is about to play “Cow Bell” (which is my favorite Iowa State football game day tradition). The leader of the drumline walks out and amps up the crowd.
Incidentally, anyone I see that bitches about playing the “Bells of Iowa State” before or after the game needs to be punched in the throat. Some opinions can only be meant with violence.
