June Road Trip: Back to the Dirty

After admiring the Frank Gotch Statue, admiring downtown Humboldt, and having a tasty lunch, I headed south on 169 back towards Fort Dodge. But on the way down I stopped at Frank Gotch State Park. Frank Gotch State Park is where the two forks of the Des Moines River combine and create one strong unified river.

There is a sweet bridge that crosses the East Fork of the Des Moines River, so I took a few photos of it.

All old train bridges should be turned into pedestrian bridges.

The bridge is part of the 3 River Bike Trail. It goes from Rolfe to Eagle Grove.

The trail is 32 miles long and follows an old Chicago and Northwester right of the way.

Something about this sign bothers me, but I can’t quite place what it is.

Frank Gotch State Park is only about 1 mile off of 169. After enjoying the views I made my way back to 169 and headed back down to Fort Dodge. I made a quick jaunt through Kennedy Park and took a couple of snaps, but on this day Kennedy Park wasn’t inspiring me. It wasn’t getting me into my mode.

I did snap a few pictures though.

After leaving Kennedy Park I headed into Fort Dodge to photograph The Fort Dodge Silo Mural by Guido van Helten. I have photographed it several times before, but I think any chance you are in the area you should check it out. I think it is pretty cool.

But you can make your own judgements:

The real reason I returned through Fort Dodge was because in the downtown area is a fantastic ice cream spot called the Dariette. I was hankering for some of their sweet ice cream, but when I got there they weren’t opening for another hour. So instead I decided to hit US-20 and head to Webster City and see if I could find some ice cream there. But that is a story for next Saturday.
