A few weeks back, shortly after Iowa Pork Producers Association announced the winner for the 2024 Best Tenderloin was Dairy Sweet in Dunlap, I joined the Degeneffes there for a meal.
Here are some pictures from the trip:

One of my goals next year is to take better notes on my food adventures. Which is a good thing because I’m just about out of food adventures to share.
But what I can tell you about this food adventure is that Dairy Sweet serves a great tenderloin. They nailed the meat to bun ratio. The breading is tasty. The loin has a good thickness. They used white onions. My only real complaint is that the bun wasn’t toasted. But at least it was just a standard bun. They didn’t try to pull out some bougie bread like ciabatta.
It is definitely worth of being the reigning Best Tenderloin in the Cyclone State!
I would definitely go back. I don’t have much call to be in the Dunlap area much. Maybe if I take a scenic route to Omaha or if I’m going to the Loess Hills. It definitely worth the stop or the diversion.
Dairy Sweet is located at:
118 Iowa Avenue
Dunlap, Iowa
Hours:
Monday – Saturday: 11 AM – 8 PM
Sunday: Closed
Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve Kansas City barbecue. And it is actually the last food adventure I have been on. So I need to get out there and try some new foods again!
