Stollen O’Clock: Ames Field Work

A Ukrainian Bakery recently opened up in downtown Ames and as you know, I’m a fiend for a good bakery. It is in the genes. I wanted to get over there as soon as I could but it’s hours were not jiving with my availability. But then, out of the blue, Boone First United Methodist Church cancelled our Sunday worship cause it was a bit nippy outside. While this made me sad (and I understand it was done to protect the older people in our congregation) it did open a window of opportunity for Teresa and I to load up the car and head over and give the new bakery a try.

Here is a bit about Piece & Freedom from their website:

It is always cool to experience another culture. Even better if it is through food!

THE GOOD

+ Service is super friendly and fast.
+ The stollen was delicious!
+ The Kyiv Cake was delicious!
+ The honey cake was delicious!
+ The Napoleon Torte was delicious!
+ Learning about the foods of a different culture.

THE BAD

+ The raspberry bar was kinda mid.
+ Extremely small.
+ Long lines sometimes, but that is because it is so good!

THE UGLY

+The proprietors have full-time jobs, so the hours aren’t great.

THE DAMAGE

+I’ve been twice. The 1st time it ran me $20.12. The 2nd time it was $14.95.

THE VERDICT

+ I will definitely go back. It is located close to my house and closer to my work, so I don’t need to make a special trip to visit it. But I will definitely be hitting it up on the regular.
