REMINDER THAT NEXT MONDAY IS MEMORIAL DAY! WHILE THE BANKS AND GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND MAYBE EVEN YOU HAVE THE DAY OFF, PHOTOGRAPHY 139 NEVER TAKES A DAY OFF! WE BARELY EVEN EVER SLEEP! IT IS JUST GRINDING CONSTANTLY. NEVER A MOMENT OF REST. AND WHY THAT MATTERS TO YOU IS THAT NEXT MONDAY MORNING YOU MIGHT BE ON A LAKE OR A BEACH OR AT A CEMETERY OR AT A BARBECUE OR ENGAGED IN A MYRIAD OF VARIOUS MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES. PLAN AHEAD AND GET YOUR SUBMISSION IN EARLY. AND DON’T FORGET, THE PEOPLE WHO SUBMIT BEFORE MONDAY MORNING ARE MY FAVORITE PEOPLE!
I need to thank everyone that wished me a happy birthday yesterday. It was a good enough birthday. I was honored at church for being old. The congregation sang me happy birthday. I ate some A&W for lunch. Went out for a new culinary experience with Jay and Jesse. Went to and saw Stink Floyd in all it’s glory. A more than adequate birthday.
So thanks to everyone that wished me happy birthday yesterday or the days before! Sorry if I forgot you off the top of my head: Teresa, Carla, Elainie, Alexis, Adam, The whole Boone First United Methodist Congregation, Jesse, Jay, Nader, Faust, Dre, RMK, Kim, Sara and Shawn (partial credit to Sara), Mindi, Monica, Suzie, Nate and the kids, Becca, Dawn, Elizabeth, Amy, Angie, Linda, Dan, Anders, Gina, Micky, Jason Carpenter, Lee and her friend, Amanda, Dan, Kelly, Michelle, and finally Steph!
The window of opportunity to wish me a happy birthday has officially closed. If you missed out, better luck next year!
But there was a certain amount of sadness. On my way to dinner with Jesse and Jay I got a phone call from Teresa that a good friend Doug Cue had suddenly passed away. Boone First United Methodist Church has had the good fortune to have many great Pastors over the years. Doug was our Pastor for a few years after our church got the sudden shock of losing a Pastor suddenly to mental health issues and losing Pastor Sarah to Minnesota. He did an amazing job helping to put our church back together. I hadn’t seen Doug in awhile, but I’m really glad that last year Teresa and I went down to Newton and worshipped with Doug and Jodie and then went out to lunch with them.

I’ll always remember a ton of things about Doug, but the thing I will remember the most was his big heart for animals. He had a Sunday every year where people could bring their animals in to be blessed!

It was called Critter Sunday and it is one of my favorite things that my church has ever done. Doug will be missed by so many people. Also so many animals. And I can’t think of a better epitaph.
HISTORICAL BUILDING! What a great theme! But how many people got their photography juices in motion? Keep scrolling to find out.

Here is the list of rules for Year 12 of THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE:
1. The picture must be taken between 12:01 PM today and 11 AM next Monday. This isn’t a curate your photos project. This is a get your butt off the couch and take pictures challenge!
- There is a limit of 2 submissions per person per theme. If you send me more than 2, I will use the first 2 that you submit. If you submit 2 pictures, make sure they are of different subjects.
- Deadline to submit your submission is 11 AM Central Time the following Monday. But that is a deadline. Pictures can be submitted as soon as you take them.
- To be considered the photographer of an image, you have to be the one that clicks the shutter. If you hand your camera over to somebody else to take a picture of you, you are NOT the photographer of that image.
- No screen captures. This is a photography challenge. Not a “look at what I found on the internet” challenge.
- Please include the location of where the picture was taken with your submission.
There are still 2 ways to submit:
- Email your submission to bennett@photography139.com.
- Text your submission to my Google Pixel 8 Pro.
It is the third Monday of the month and on the third week of the month I like to share a map of all the states where people have submitted from heading into today. Here is that map:

Enough dwelling on the past! Time to look to the future. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future! This week’s theme:

SIGN
SIGN! What a great theme for Year 12 of THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE!
I look forward to seeing your interpretation!
That is all I got, so if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, we will see your idea of SIGN in this place that is always looking for them next Monday!
Thank you, Chris, for your words. Pastor Doug Cue will be remembered by all who met him. There are many prayer warriors praying for Jodie and all their families.
