Breakfast Club: Le Grand Field Work

A few Saturdays back Carla, Teresa, and I loaded up in the RAV4 and went to Clinton to do some troll hunting. On the way we stopped for breakfast at the Sunrise Café in Le Grand, Iowa. We decided to stop there because it was on a list of “8 Mom-and-Pop Diners in Iowa That Make Every Mile Worth It” from Travelmag. I literally know nothing about Travelmag, but Le Grand was at a good stopping point between Boone and Clinton, so it seemed like a good place to check out.

Here are some cell phone pictures from the meal:

Nice rug! I wouldn’t leave hungry.

I have to learn someday, stop ordering chocolate milk from restaurants! But hey, if we had stopped for lunch I could have had a Pepsi!

Syrup for my pancake.

I got the western omelet. Which is like the Denver omelet, only a little farther down the road.

Loaded up and truckin’!

I can’t dissect a frog, but an omelet. That is my jam. But not literally jam.

$17.28 before tip.

The Verdict?

Would I eat there again? Sure. Would I go out of my way to eat there again? Not really. It was a perfectly adequate breakfast. I think the omelet was a little over done. The pancake was tasty. The chocolate milk was awful, but I’ve just learned to accept that now.

Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve the same trip. But it will be the meal we ate for lunch.
