Try Boone…

Back in late November last year Boone got a new feature. It was actually a re-imagining of an old Boone arch that used to be in Boone near the two passenger train depots. Passenger rail left Boone a long time ago. The depots both were torn down years ago. The arch also was torn down.

However, a group of Boone residents fought to bring it back. It looks similar to the original sign but sits about 4 blocks south of the original’s location. It now greets vehicle traffic as they enter Boone’s downtown business district. I tried to photograph it as it went up. But I didn’t take the day off cause I was still in the process of reloading my PTO. But the word on KWBG was that the sign would mostly be put up about the time I was on my lunch break. I went down on my lunch break. However, the sign wasn’t remotely close to being up on my lunch break. I took what pictures I could and then went back home to work. My plan was to come back after work to photographed a finished arch.

When I got down there, there were plenty of people watching the work, including Logan, Teresa, Valerie, and my cousin Susie. Her family was instrumental in the construction of the arch. Her husband and sons were both heavily involved in building it and it was mostly built in their workshop.

I was impressed by the number of people there because the weather was cold AND it was raining!

Here is the first collection of images I took of the arch construction.

I still have a bunch more pictures to share of the rising of Boone’s arch!
