I need to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
That image didn’t turn out quite like I wanted, but I’m pretty up front about sharing my failures a long with my success! As few as they may be. Thanks to Willy for assisting with making this image!
I hope everybody has a safe and joyous celebration. I’m sure I will long be in the Land of Nod* when midnight strikes in the Cyclone State. So I’ll be safe. Joyous? Depends on what I’m dreaming about.
+++++++
Time to share the final collection of Rail Explorers images from my trip on their with Becca, Becca’s boyfriend, and Willy. I once again hope you like images of railroad tracks. I mean, who doesn’t right?

That concludes all the pictures from what was a great adventure! I can’t endorse going on the Rail Explorers enough. Pretty much any physical fitness level can do it too. You don’t have to be super buff like me.
*Sleeping. Not where Cain was sent after killing Abel.
“Denouement” is one of my favorite words! Also, while I have sort of an irrational fear of bridges with so sides as I get older, these photos are so great that you made me think about going anyway!
They do make you wear a seat belt, so you don’t worry have to falling off the side. Also they regulate how many cars can be on the bridge. Still I do anticipate at some point, somebody undoing the seatbelt and standing up and losing their balance and falling off the side of the bridge. People are just too stupid as a species for this to not happen at some point.
But I really can’t recommend it enough. It is so much fun! Some of the people on my trip highly recommend doing the sunset trip like we did, I’m not sure I would fall into that category, but I don’t not fit into that category. I guess I would like to experience a day trip at some point.
What can’t be overstated though, is how loud it is when you first get going and how fast going like 20 MPH feels at first. It is a little more work heading back in because back to the depot is more uphill. But it really isn’t all that much work because a motor does most of the work and that motor is engaged as long as the person in the Conductor Seat is pedaling. That person also controls the brake and is charge of hand signals. So choose that person wisely. There are 4 person and 2 person options, but I think the 4 person car is the best deal financially.
That is also my thinking, somebody is going to be a moron and stand up without a seatbelt. I get that survival of the fittest is a thing for a reason. That is great they make you wear a seatbelt, though – that is a huge relief. I can’t even imagine how intense the 20 mph feels with nothing around you, however.
I would imagine that the sunset trip is great if you are only going for the view, but I have to imagine it made taking photos really tough. Jon rides a bike for a couple of hours a day year-round, either inside or outside, so I would put him firmly in the driver seat! That makes total sense to split it four ways, that sounds much preferred over having to shoulder the entire burden financially. (I am super-cheap.)
I don’t know how super-cheap you are. I have a feeling that you might be like me a little bit. Probably better with money than I am, but that is a low bar to hurdle. I can be very cheap with certain things, but I’m willing to spend money on experiences. 2 person or 4 person isn’t cheap. And this is the only experience like it west of the Mississippi.
It $99 for 2 people. $160 for 4. So 4 people is cheaper per person. But not cheaper-cheaper.
There is a little break between the ride out and the ride in. So you can bring snacks. There is also a small gift shop where you can buy snacks if you forgot to pack water… like me.
Actually looks like they recently opened one in California. So the only one west of the Mississippi that you don’t have to travel to California to do.
I would say you have a really accurate assessment. I don’t purchase clothes unless they’re on clearance, we do Costco for bulk products, I research even stupid small purchases on Amazon to make sure I am getting a deal, and not going to get a dud of something and buy it again. But if I am going to get something like a camera, I will invest more in it after researching exactly what I want that has excellent ratings. (Although I quite often buy secondhand on Adorama or KEH or similar). And we specifically save for nice travel, because that experience is super-important to us – esp since neither of us travel much for work anymore. So you are very accurate there – I am cheap within parameters, which sounds like what you are saying!
Oh! $40/person for a crazy unique experience is actually a great deal. Shoot, last time we went on the train in just a coach, I think it was something like $35 per person, so it’s not even that different. And the photos and experience are wild. I think that is cheaper than a day at Adventureland, and I end up sore and nauseous after that!
That sentence about Adventureland made me sound super lame – and I am. My body is old, particularly my neck and back! And I was hospitalized with hyperemesis when I was pregnant with Charlie, so now I get motion sickness. I am not the same person who jumped out of a plane at 22.
