Another major development is the finalists for Best Burger in Iowa were announced this morning. Take a look at the map:
There is only one that is super close to me but most of them are closer than a 2 hour drive. Here is the list and how far they are from my front door (according to Google Maps):
- Arcadia (Polk City) – 33 minutes
- Halftime Bar & Grill (Pleasantville) – 1 hour 19 minutes
- Smash & Grab Burger Co. (Knoxville) – 1 hour 31 minutes
- Lewis and Lewis Hot Shotz Kitchen (Oskaloosa) – 1 hour 47 minutes
- Big Head Burger (Waterloo) – 1 hour 47 minutes
- Salsa Guy Cafe (Cedar Rapids) – 1 hour 55 minutes
- Wilder (Iowa City) – 2 hours 12 minutes
- Dan’s Road House (Cresco) – 2 hours 46 minutes
- Burger and Company (Spirit Lake) – 2 hour 46 minutes
- The Roadhouse (Orange City) – 2 hours 57 minutes
Obviously I’m not going to make all of those are even most of these. But I’ll definitely try to hit a couple. Maybe as many as a few. I’ll definitely try to hit the winner after it is announced on May 1. Happy burger harvesting everyone!
Last September the famous UP Big Boy came through Iowa. I took some time off work for a couple of days to try to get a halfway decent picture of it. The first day was a failure for the most part as I set up in one location west of Carroll and got a few pictures of it. It was supposed to stop in Carroll for 30 minutes, but stayed for maybe 5. Getting out of the Carroll parking lot was a disaster and I was never really able to get to my secondary locations and didn’t really get to a position to photograph it well again until it was stopped in Boone for the night.
