We are done with the food adventures in Austin, but we aren’t returning to an exactly normal food adventure. It is a food adventure from around here, but the restaurant is the family restaurant of the lady friend of a good friend of mine. So, while it was fantastic, I’m not going to give it a real breakdown. Just share some images of the day.
The restaurant is called The Big Steer. It is the family restaurant of Russell’s lady friend. Russell doesn’t like it when I call her Mrs. Kennerly, so Russell’s lady friend will have to suffice.
Russell, Andree, and I have started getting together again. Really for the first time consistently since before the pandemic and this is one of the better developments in my life this year. I don’t want to overstate it because Russell might get kind of weepy. A big softie that guy. Andree is a man’s man though.
Here are pictures from the meal:

1st of all incredible sculpture!

The line to get in started to form something like 15-20 minutes before they opened. Good thing we knew somebody important!

Letting the masses in for some cow!

I almost Photoshopped out the Corn Fed part before Micky saw it, but I’m just too committed to the truth.

On the house, cause as Russell will tell you all the time, he’s kind of a big deal! Also fantastic!

Any time I eat cheese I take a picture and send it to Elizabeth, because that is what good friends do. EDITOR’S NOTE: Great friends do.

Bread. I think this is standard with every meal. You don’t get this because you are with somebody that is a big deal.

I got the prime rib, because it is the best in Iowa! Which I believe makes it the best in the world by my math.

No, stop. I can’t eat any more. Oh, cake. There is always room for cake! Heath Bar Triple Chocolate Cake!

I think Russell was uncomfortable with how important the anatomical correctness of the Big Steer was to me. But pushing him out of his comfort zone has been one of my life missions for quite the time.

I’m not going to break this down much. It is sufficient to say that it was a fantastic meal and if you can drag yourself away from the corporate franchise steakhouses this is the place for you! Cause it is much better than your corporate franchise steakhouse.
This is a family owned restaurant that has been serving some of the best cow you will ever have since 1984!
