Back to the world of normal food adventures. No more Iowa State Fair. No more Route 66. Just back to the hard work of being on the frontlines of trying food… food that I haven’t tried before.
This food adventure took place on August 8. I had late lunch/early supper plans with the West Crew in Des Moines. That left a good chunk of my day wide open. I decided I should finally make a trip to the Adel Sweet Corn Festival. I had heard great things about it, but had never made it. I wasn’t prepared for how big of a deal it is.
As I was wandering around taking some street photography images I had the pleasant surprise of running into the Peters. Saydie, Kyle, and Aria were waiting in the several block long line for the free sweet corn. That line was too long for me and I was really there to photograph the corn eating contest. So after exchanging pleasantries, I bid them farewell and heading for some competitive food eating! The Sport of Kings!
After photographing and thoroughly enjoying the corn eating contest, I decided to grab some grub. I didn’t want a full meal since I was dining in Des Moines later (but not that much later), so after perusing the wide variety of food trucks there, I decided to get nachos from a barbecue food truck that had an interesting vibe.

The Peters waiting in line for free corn.

Knocking down that tasty corn!

I thought so long and hard about buying this shirt. I have so many regrets about not buying it.

So many sassy signs!

I’m not a big ribs person, but in retrospect, I wish I had went with the ribs.

So I spend $18 for the “Loaded Nachos”. Now I know things are expensive these days, but for $18 plus tax, plus they probably asked for a tip… I was expecting a feast.

This is what I got. Which was no feast.

In fairness, the pork was good. And there was a decent amount of pork.

But look at all these sad chips at the bottom that had no cheese on them at all!

I rarely don’t finish a food adventure meal. In fact, I feel it is my solemn duty to end each one of these posts with a picture of an empty plate. But this one just wasn’t to be. I threw in the towel when all of the “loaded” was gone and only the sad chips remained.
THE VERDICT
If I saw this food truck out in the wild again, I would give them another chance. I’d go for the ribs or try their brisket. I think they probably make good meals, but nachos are not their forte.
Next Sunday’s food adventure will involve that later in the day meal with the West Crew that I had on this same day.
