Time for Day 3 of my food adventure in Austin, Texas. This is the first day the Computer Mine Conference was actually going on. Which means that some of my meals would start being free. After Day 2, this is what was left in my per diem account:
$292.32
I began by eating breakfast at the Rich Prick Club. Which as free. Cause rich people don’t pay for stuff. But I started the day doing a little morning walk to get the juices going for a long day of dealing with the public:

After leaving the RP Club, most of the early part of my day was turning on lights for our speakers. I took a few pictures of that as well:

Our keynote speaker was a DJ. After he spoke, it was time for lunch!

I’ve only been to like 2 Computer Mine Conferences. But this meal was by far the best one I’ve ever had. Usually these meals are trash. Which is to be expected. We are talking about banquet food made for hundreds of people. It isn’t supposed to be good. But this was actually pretty good.
During the evening the important Computer Mine people went on a boat ride and ate a meal. Not being remotely important, I was on my own. I ended up hooking up with some fellow low level miners and we hit up the Moonshine Grill for supper.

The Moonshine Grill was by far the worst meal I had the entire trip. I really can’t say any part of the meal was all that good. At best things were mid. Which isn’t good.
The Quick Overview:
- I ate my free meal at the RP Club on the balcony even though it was a bit chilly out there. Eating breakfast on a balcony even when the view isn’t that great is still pretty great.
- The lunch banquet food was Italian themed and it was actually pretty good. My only complaint was that they ran out of desserts before I got to try any. But I probably could skip dessert now and again.
- The Moonshine Grill. Maybe the best thing I had there was the Corn Dog Shrimp. But it was mostly mid. The Cathead Biscuits were way too thick. It wasn’t hard, so it had that going for it. The twice cooked sweet potatoes were also pretty disappointing.
- I got the Wagyu Salisbury Steak. I might have got that out of spite because almost everyone at the table talked about how disgusting Salisbury Steak was in their house growing up. Not in my house. My Mom’s Salisbury Steak was phenomenal. I guess Salisbury Steak is a poor person’s dish. Maybe that is why this Salisbury Steak wasn’t very good. Maybe you shouldn’t try to class it up. Reminds me of when I was used to work at the Evil Clown Empire. I was out for dinner with my “boss” and he insisted that I try a bit of his Tuna Melt because it was incredible. Dude, I grew up poor. I’ve had my fair share of tuna melts. Tuna was like 50 cents a can. It is a poor person food. I don’t need to try your bougie tuna melt. My best guess is that since he grew up rich a tuna melt was an exotic meal. This bougie Salisbury Steak had a lot in common with the bougie tuna melt. Next time I have a chance to eat bougie poor person food, I’ll pass. Lesson re-learned.
- The damage with tip at Moonshine Grill was $34.34.
My breakfast free. My lunch was free. Suppers was $34.34. That means at the end of Day 3, this is what remained in the per diem account:
$257.98
Could I make that last through Friday, Saturday, and the flight home on Sunday? We’ll continue this journey next Sunday. I know, you are on the edge of your seat!
