Time to share cell phone pictures from Day 4 of my work trip to Philadelphia. Truth be told, this was probably my favorite day. Even though I had to work. Even though I didn’t have a single Philly Cheesesteak. It was because I got see my cousin Sarah and her husband Tim for the first time in what can only be described as WAY TOO LONG!
As I started Day 4, this is what left in the per diem fund:
$385.25
Here are the pictures from Day 4 and my reunion with my long lost cousin.

At the Big Meeting last year Michelle and I failed to find a way to get up to the catwalk to get a picture of the Computer Mine Booth. No such failure this year.

I didn’t have time to get breakfast or lunch, so my sustenance for most of the day was from the snack supply in the closet.

I seem to be the only one that love these pro-biotic snack mixes.

After a hard day of working for the Man, Sarah and Tim picked me up. Our first stop was Okie Dokie donut’ A donut place that Sarah had long wanted to try.

We didn’t eat here, but it looked interesting!

Corndog Donut

After the donuts, we walked around a Philly neighborhood for a bit.

We almost ate supper here. But didn’t.

We ended up eating at a Moroccan Restaurant called Casablanca. The light was really bad for photography, so these pictures are pretty awful. Apologies!

Only picture I have. Sorry it isn’t even in the ballpark of in focus!

Baklava!

PREACH!!!
My observations:
- The snacks were perfectly adequate. Got no complaints there. And since they were free, my “breakfast” and “lunch” were free.
- We ate the donuts and the donut chicken sandwich out of the back of Sarah and Tim’s car. While we were eating them a guy came out of Okie Dokie to take down the signs and close up for the night. I asked him if he was the owner. He had that vibe about him. He said he was the owner and one of the chefs. We talked to him for a good 15 minutes or so. He let us in on a little secret. Their donuts are gluten-free. They don’t advertise it because sometimes people here words like gluten-free and won’t even give the food a chance. I’m not one of those people. You may recall that I’m a big fan of the gluten-free restaurant in Nevada. Everything I tried from there was fantastic! I’d highly recommend it if you are looking for a donut in Philadelphia, this is a hard recommend!
- The Moroccan restaurant was also fantastic. It is hard to see the menu in the picture of it. But it is served family style. You automatically get an appetizer of marinated carrots, roasted eggplant, cucumber tomato salad, and pita bread. You also automatically get a desert of baklava and hot mint tea. Then you can choose from two of the entrees. We chose the spicy Casablanca Chicken and the lamb with honey drizzle and toasted almonds.
- I thought the server at Casablanca might also be the owner. He was also giving out the owner vibe. He was very passionate about their food. But when I asked him if he was the owner he said, “I wish! Then I’d make my sister and brother work here and I’d be living on a beach!”
- We sat outside because the inside is packed, but that was a win for me. I always love eating outside. Especially when the weather was as perfect as it was on this night. I don’t know if it is because we sat outside or it was this way for the entire restaurant, but it was BYOB. And the B doesn’t stand for Bible. Although I’m sure you could have brought one too. Tim walked a couple of blocks away and picked up some drinks for us.
- The food was fantastic! I particularly loved the lamb and the hot mint tea blew my expectations out of the water!
- They paid for my supper, so my total food expenses for Day 4 was $0.00.
After Day 4, the following was left in the Per Diem Fund:
$385.25
Would that last for the 3 remaining days of the trip? The adventure will continue next Sunday!
