A few weeks back the theme for THE WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE was BLACK & WHITE. I used a picture of the Johnny Orr Statue from Hilton Coliseum as my submission, but you are a dang fool if you think that was the only BLACK & WHITE image I took that week. A dang fool!
I always use that week as an excuse to blow the dust off the old A72 and play around with it’s high contrast monochrome setting and fire off at least 100 pictures with it.
This collection begins with several pictures taken in Boone’s VFW. As you know, I like to hit up the VFW for biscuits and gravy a couple of times a month. On Saturday after another round of tasty biscuits and gravy we had a lengthy conversation with one of the men that serves the biscuits and gravy. He told me something kind of awful. There are plans to build a new veterans center in Boone. I don’t know all the details, but I believe that both the VFW and the American Legion will both move into the new building. However, we were told that all of the historic memorabilia that hangs on the wall of the VFW will not be moving to the new building. They want it to look more “generic” so they can rent it out for wedding receptions and what not. That sucks! They are trying to locate family members to see if any of them are interested in the artifacts that were donated. I hope something changes, but I might have to do some more intense photographing of the artifacts on a future biscuits and gravy outing.
