Time for Day 2 of my food adventure in Austin, Texas. The lame one. With all the music and no SPAM Museum. After Day 1, this is what was left in my per diem account:
$317.90
Lowell and I began putting the rooms (that were available to us) together about 8 in the morning. Which gave me plenty of time to hit the super secret rich prick club up for a free breakfast.

View from the RP Club balcony.

Repping the 2nd best college in Iowa.

These sausage things were disappointing. The potatoes were good.

Eggs! Now I know I was rubbing elbows with the elites. (I know probably pre-whipped eggs – if you don’t know what that is, ask a poor person.)

This was the worst fruit I’ve had my life. Is this why rich people are so angry and greedy? Cause they’ve never had good fruit?

I definitely didn’t grab any of this stuff and take it back to my room…

Oatmeal was pretty good!

I ate like a king in the morning.
On Day 1 Kim made a huge deal about how she knew where we were going to eat lunch on Day 2. Gus’s Fried Chicken. Which is world famous. Unless you live in a cave or something. I was excited because I love fried chicken. Still tentatively thinking of taking a trip to Kansas City just to eat fried chicken. Keep your judgments to yourself, or the comments section.

If you pay attention to my New to Me Vinyl Friday on the Snapchat, you know I love me some Gary Clark Jr.!

Don’t need a menu, only a fool wouldn’t get the fried chicken.

You know your boy got some sweet tea.

Oh, Kim!

Fried Okra? Yes please!

Guess your boy has eaten fried chicken now. You know who has never eaten fried chicken though? Kim.

The King! The only monarch I recognize.

I don’t think I would consider it spicy. This is not Nashville chicken we’re talking about here.

Gus’s started in Mason, Tennessee. Wonder how far they would have made it if they concentrated on grilled cheese sandwiches.

After lunch, Lowell and I went back to setting up and then spent a long time waiting for them to get breakout rooms set up so we could setup our stuff. It was a long day of mostly waiting and twiddling our thumbs. Eventually we gave up and went for supper.

Have you ever watched people put together a balloon arch? 1/10 stars. Do not recommend.

Lowell and I just went walking. Eventually we crossed the Colorado River on the Congress Street Bridge looking for food.

Until we saw a bunch of people just standing there looking at the bridge did we realize we were on Austin’s famous bat bridge.

We found nothing on the other side of the Colorado River. So we walked back.

And found this weird taco place.

Veracruz. They serve all natural Mexican Cuisine.

And agave straws. Which worked okay.

3 tacos and a mango agua fresca.

All things considered, I’d much rather have Rico’s.

Like all bathrooms should be.

Above this, there was a sweet mural dedicated to Women’s Rights that we couldn’t see cause we were too close.
The Quick Overview:
- Gus does deserve to be world famous. The fried chicken was fantastic.
- The potato salad is sweet in a good way and buried the potato salad from the night before.
- Sweet tea was on point and I would expect nothing less.
- I will be visiting a Gus’s in the future. They are as close as Kansas City. I just had a great idea for a fried chicken double header!
- The damage at Gus’s was $25.58.
- The tacos at Veracruz were just kind of okay. I would not see a reason to eat there again.
- The damage at Veracruz was $32.69 Which is insane to me for 3 tacos and a drink.
My breakfast was free. My lunch was $25.58. Supper was $32.69. That means at the end of Day 2, this is what remained in the per diem account:
$292.32
Could I make that last through Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and for the flight home on Sunday? We’ll start to answer that next Sunday.
