The subject for the January image is the rotunda of the Iowa Capital. It is a part of a series of the Iowa Capital photos called “Where Basic Human Rights Go to Die”. I took this picture lying on the floor of what I would consider the 1st floor of the Capital. One of the great advances of modern photography is the reduction of digital noise in higher ISO. A camera of a slightly older vintage probably would have shown at least some digital noise at 1250. I assume that at some point this year I might get back and photograph the Capital again this year. It was on my Iowa Bucket List for 2025 and was one of the things I was able to cross off. Or to be more literal highlight in my 2025 ledger. I’d like to get back on a week day so I could have a freer hand to move about the law library. I’d also like to visit the Drake law library at some point. If you are in Des Moines, you could do worse than touring the State Capital Building. It is free. Unlike our politicians, who are cheap, but still costs out of state special interests a little bit of money.
Tomorrow I will reveal the February image.
Last Friday Lowell and I had just left the Eastern State Penitentiary. We ended up walking down to the Philadelphia Art Museum because I had already managed to lose my ticket for the tour bus. The Philadelphia Art Museum is most famous for being the home of the “Rocky Steps”. It was a big thrill seeing them. But unfortunately the photos were slightly ruined by some giant tents setup at the top of them. Well, you can’t have everything.
After that we took an Uber back to the hotel where we went our separate ways. I eventually ended up at the Liberty Bell.
Here are more pictures from Day 2:
Still one more collection of images from Day 2 of the Philadelphia trip left to share.
