I took this picture of the Union Pacific Big Boy east of Jordan late in the morning in September of 2019. I went out to photograph the train as it was preparing to pull in to Boone, knowing that my friends that work for the railroad might label me a foamer.

The Big Boy is 132 feet long and weighs 1.2 million pounds. The frame is hinged to allow it to negotiate curves. It has a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement. These engines normally operated between Ogden, Utah and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to the Union Pacific in December 1941 and retired in December 1961. It returned to service in May 2019.
