This is the fourth collection of images I took while visiting George Floyd Square back in July. There will be one more collection that follows. I have said it before, but it was an incredibly powerful experience and I would encourage anybody to go see the tributes and the art created from the pain.

Time to share another collection of images from my 2nd trip to the Iowa State Fair. This time a trip with the Degeneffes. This is more of my roaming around the fairgrounds while most of the fair was still asleep and the gates had yet to be opened to the general public.
Come on! You know I love pictures of urinals!
They serve the same amount of customers when the Fair is open.

On the first day that I followed RAGBRAI, the final stop was Ames. Ames was an overnight town. I went to downtown Ames to check out their festivities and met up with the Gorshes.

Honestly, the Ames RAGBRAI experience was a little bit of a disappointment. But on the next day I would follow RAGBRAI to Slater and Madrid, and both of them more than made up for Ames!
On Thursday night, in Iowa City, Caitlin Clark pulled up near the logo and drilled a 3 pointer. The crowd went crazy. The announcers went crazy. She went crazy. Her teammates went crazy. She has just become the all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history!
Only, not so fast. Did she?
Now, this isn’t meant to be a slight against Caitlin Clark. She is a great basketball player. Maybe, the greatest women’s basketball player in history. BUT, she isn’t the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. Not yet.
You see there are a couple of caveats to her being the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. You have to listen closely. If the announcers/reporters are doing their job, they are saying the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history. Next, they will start counting down her march to overtake Pete Maravich as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history. Men’s or Women’s.
That is right, but there is more college basketball than just the NCAA variety.
Caitlin Clark is no the second all-time leading scorer in women’s major basketball. Some might call it Division 1. Before the NCAA could see their way to oversee women’s basketball, women’s basketball was ran by the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. From 1971 to 1981, they oversaw women’s sports and believe it or not there was a woman at a major college that scored more points than Caitlin Clark, so far.
Caitlin Clark has currently scored 3,569 points, so far. So who still has more points than her? There are a few, but here are the key ones.
Lynette Woodward scored 3,649 points in her career at Kansas. Making her the current all-time leading scorer in major women’s college basketball.
Pete Maravich scored 3,667 points in his college career at Louisiana State. No matter, what he is and remains the greatest scorer in college basketball history. He amassed his total in only 3 years because when he played, Freshman were not allowed to play. He also played before the institution on of the 3 point line. In fact, so did Lynette Woodward and the next person on this list. Maravich averaged… AVERAGE 44.2 points per game over his college career. 44.2!!
Pearl Moore scored 4,061 points in her college career at Francis Marion College. Making her the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. Regardless of level.
John Pierce scored 4,230 points in his career at Lipscomb. Back when he put up his monster stats Lipscomb was an NAIA school. So that makes him the all-time leading scorer in college basketball history at all levels.
This isn’t to put down what Caitlin Clark is doing. It is just that some people have seemingly been wiped out of the narrative and their accomplishments forgotten. I think their accomplishments should not be forgotten.

I do love a good shape theme! It is a theme that makes you look at the world in a slightly different way (SPOILER: that is what all the themes should do) as you see how shapes fit together to make the entire picture you see. It is a great exercise to help you improve your compositional skills. Maybe next year I should do some combined shape themes. Like SQUARE AND TRIANGLE. A submission would have to include both of them. I’m starting to fall in love with my own idea. I’m sure that is the first time that has ever happened.
Today is Bill’s birthday, so I need to wish him a happy birthday.

I have a standing, handshake deal, with Evie (and hopefully Layla is in too) to go to Snakes Alive this year and get our picture taken with a snake. This going to Day 1 of the Fair with the Gorshes has become one of favorite little traditions!

The big milestone this week was the first ever submission from Jason! WooHoo!
But it wasn’t all good news. Myriah couldn’t build on last week’s submission and her streak was over before it even began!

When Jesse and I went down to Memphis to watch the embarrassing debacle that was the Liberty Bowl we made sure to eat a bunch of delicious food. Fortunately the Pastor at my church lived in Memphis for several years and he gave us several solid recommendations on places to eat.
Here are the pictures from my Memphis food adventure with Jesse:
St. Louis–style pizza is a type of pizza popular in St. Louis, Missouri, and surrounding areas.[1] The style has a thin cracker-like crust made without yeast, generally uses Provel cheese, and is cut into squares or rectangles instead of wedges.
For supper that night we ate at Central Barbecue.
The cole slaw was maybe the worst thing I’ve tasted in my life, but the rest was amazing!

It was so dark in there, there aren’t many pictures.
But the entertainment was hard to beat.
Breakfast again the next morning. We really didn’t eat supper the night before.

We got a free donut cause it was our first time.
Before the game we had brunch at Railgarten with some awesome people! Cyclone fans!
Food was nothing special but it got the job done.
Also we met up with Jon and his friend.

It was a great trip and so much great food! I would say that Corky’s was my favorite. But I don’t think we had a bad meal. That includes the lunch at A&W in Mount Pleasant, Iowa on the trip back.
That is the last food adventure I have to share right now. Maybe I will come up with one in the next few days. So I will have one to share next Sunday. Time will tell!
Back in July when I went up to hang out with my Minnesota family, I made a stop at George Perry Floyd Square to just see it, experience it, and photograph it. It was one of the most powerful experiences I had in 2023.
If you don’t know what George Perry Floyd Square is, here is some info from the Wiki:
George Floyd Square, officially George Perry Floyd Square, is the commemorative street name for the section of Chicago Avenue in the U.S. city of Minneapolis from East 37th Street to East 39th Street. It is named after George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered there by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020. The streetway and memorial site is centered at the 38th and Chicago intersection.
Public outrage over Floyd’s murder resulted in the largest mass protest movement since the civil rights movement, largely over issues of systemic racism and police brutality. In the following weeks, racial justice activists and some community members erected barricades to keep 38th and Chicago street intersection closed to vehicular traffic for over a year during 2020 and 2021. Artists and demonstrators installed several exhibits, paintings, sculptures, and other works of art to memorialize Floyd and visualize racial justice themes.
To be honest I didn’t know about everything that would be there. I had seen pictures of the painting on the side of the building and the memorial in front of the building and I wanted to see that. Much of everything else I saw was a surprise.
