A Photo Journal – Henry Carroll – Page 48

A few weeks back when I was taking the pictures for Page 49 for THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT, I also took pictures for Page 48:

Photo Journal - Page 48
Page 48 – Take a photo that whispers.

To take this picture I cranked down the saturation, contrast, and sharpness levels on my camera.

Only 1 picture can be physically adhered into the physical A PHOTO JOURNAL, but I did take several more. Have a gander:

A Photo Journal – Henry Carroll – Page 49

A few weeks back I was messing with some camera settings and decided it was a perfect time to crank out Page 49 of THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT:

Photo Journal - Page 49
Page 49 – Take a photograph that shouts.

By a photograph that shouts, it is a picture that is bold in its colors, contrast, and sharpness. I jacked these settings up all the way on my camera and photographed some flowers in the Photography 139 flowerbeds and at my Mom’s house.

While only one picture can be physically adhered into the physical A PHOTO JOURNAL, I did take several others. Here are some of those I like, but won’t be in the physical A PHOTO JOURNAL:

This is your weekly reminder that this week’s WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE theme is ARCHITECTURE.

WEEK 159 - ACHITECTURE
ARCHITECTURE

An ARCHITECTURE photo is any photo that has to do with a building or a man-made structure. Inside or out. Doesn’t matter.

Happy photo harvesting!

High-fed; Long-lived; and Sociable and Free

Recently Carla texted me to let me know that there was a collection of egrets hanging out in a field she passes on her way to work.

Shortly thereafter, I went out there looking for them. I really only got a couple decent egret pictures, but I did get a few decent pelican pictures that were hanging out nearby.

07-20-08

There are so many images in the folder called 07-20-08 that I’m going to split the next 2 folders into 3 posts, most likely.

The images in this post are from Ames on the Half Shell with Kountertop, the Iowa Games, some softball, and the Boone County Fair.

Kountertop was one of my favorite bands that played Ames on the Half Shell. To be honest, Ames on the Half Shell was a collection of nondescript classic rock cover bands. 1 band was just about indistinguishable from the next. Which worked for the target audience of Ames on the Half Shell. They just want to get a good buzz and listen to music that doesn’t challenge them.

There were a few exceptions, but they were pretty rare.

Kountertop did fit into the mold of classic rock cover band, but they at least had some style. Plus, they were skilled musicians.

The softball pictures are from a game between Boone and Madrid. It was a battle of some Bennett family friends. The Howards from Boone and the Madduxes from Madrid.

The Boone County Fair pictures were taken with Becky and some of her family. You should be warned that there are some bunny pictures in there. If you don’t like bunny pictures, turn back now!

IMAGES FROM A SATURDAY

Next Saturday’s walk down memory lane will involve even more softball, pictures from my first mission trip, and possibly a trip to the Miller farm.

A Photo Journal – Henry Carroll – Page 55

A few weeks back Jay sent me an enigmatic message about archaeological photography. After drilling down, I figure out he was talking about taking pictures of a recently abandoned apartment in his building. An apartment that the former occupants left in less than stellar conditions.

One Sunday after a post church meal with the family I grabbed a camera and went over to Jay’s apartment building for a tour of Apartment 4. After a quick look around, I knew that somewhere in this mess was a perfect subject for Page 55 of THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT:

Photo Journal - Page 55
Page 55 – ‘I am at war with the obvious.’ William Eggleston. Join Eggleston’s war.

Here is the idea for this page in THE PHOTO JOURNAL PROJECT from the tips in the back.

Sunsets, pretty flowers, and beaches. These are ‘obvious’ subjects offering a conventional idea of beauty. Instead, hunt down more unusual, surprising subjects-the sort that only come alive when they are photographed.

Only one picture can physically be adhered into the physical manifestation of THE PHOTO JOURNAL, however I did take several other pictures in Apartment 4. Here are the pictures that I like, but won’t be place in THE PHOTO JOURNAL.

Here is your reminder that this week’s WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE theme is PERSPECTIVE.

A PERSPECTIVE photo is any photo that involves a different perspective from the way you normally see the world. Above where you normally see the world. Below where you normally see the world. Another example of perspective is making something small look big by putting it in the foreground and something large in the background. This is called forced perspective.

WEEK 157 - PERSPECTIVE
PERSPECTIVE!

Happy photo harvesting!

What Do You Call a Wasp?

I was going to go through quite a bit of older photos before I published photos of Shannon extracting honey from a few weeks back.

Then, Satruday’s episode of SVENGOOLIE featured the bee movie TERROR OUT OF THE SKY, the sequel to the bee movie THE SAVAGE BEES. I was inspired by this terrible movie to edit and publish the honey extraction pictures as soon as possible.

Shannon was extracting honey for her husband’s business Foley’s Russian Bees. Honey isn’t really even the main part of his business. His main business is raising and selling queens, however with so many bees, honey is produced.

Honey has become a very sweet side business.

If you are interested in buying some honey here are the prices:

12 oz for $6
24 oz for $10

I don’t believe you can buy the honey from their online store, however, if you let me know, I can pass an order on to Shannon.

Click on the link below if you want to know more about Russian Bees:

If you are wondering, What do you call a wasp?

A wanna-bee!

Wait, I got more!

What a bee’s favorite novel?
The Great Gats-bee!

What do you call a bee that can’t stop eating?
Chub-bee!

Why did the bee go to the barbershop?
To get a buzz-cut!

What did the confused bee say?
To bee or not to bee!

Okay, I’m done.
