Slice of Life Vol. 43
I wish I knew where some of these train pictures were taken.

Here are some random New York City images from the Second Day of the trip. These were taken at and around Ground Zero and at St. Paul’s Chapel, which is across the street from Ground Zero.
Regrettably, some of these pictures were taken through a window, leading to a regrettable reflection.

More random New York City images will be coming your way next Wednesday.

These pictures come from backup/Old My Pictures/Deg-Porter Wedding
These pictures were taken at Scott and Melissa’s wedding. The last wedding I was in until Jen & Derrick’s wedding.

There were a fair amount of submissions for UNFOCUSED. So without further adieu…

I’ve been over to visit the the Random Theme Generator to get a sweet new theme for this week. It spit out the following sweetness:
Here is a look back at last year’s FAST submissions:
Good luck capturing some FAST subjects.
HOUSEKEEPING
If you want to sign up for an email subscription to the Robot Monster Bros. website, I have set that up. Just email me at bennett@robotmonsterbros.com and I will add you. You will get emails any time any of my stable of writers posts, not just me. So that is exciting!

There were two points to this project. My first point was that I wanted to scan a negative. In this day and age, it is a borderline revolutionary act to use film. Unfortunately I have let too much time and space get between me and my film camera(s). This is an injustice that I hope to remedy this year.
My first point was to make sure the viewer knew that this picture was taken with film. However, initially I felt that just scanning a negative so you knew it was a negative wouldn’t be enough. This lead to my 2nd point.
I was going to hit these negatives with a hammer. This is somewhat loosely based on something I did a long time ago when I printed a picture and then crumpled it up and then rescanned the picture.
However, this photo project lead me down several different avenues and in the end hitting the negatives with a hammer didn’t really produce the result I was looking to produce.
Here are some of the other images and other avenues I ventured down.

I did point out to everybody that I photographed that I would be hitting their picture with a hammer and not to be offended by that fact. Amazingly none of them were.
Next week I’ll return to publishing pictures from the 9 Emotions Project. Jesse and Jay are next up in the hopper.

The weird thing about these pictures is that I’ve never seen them before, but one of the pictures is eerily similar to a picture I took for RWPE last year.
The watch in a couple of these pictures also showed up in a RWPE picture last year.

Even though I only recently started the tradition of posting movie reviews on Wednesdays, I’m already walking away from that tradition. I want to keep this website about photography as much as possible, so I’m going to start posting my movie reviews on my collective blog:
If you were to follow that link, you would not find any movie reviews. You will find an explanation of why I do my movie reviews the way I do. You will also find a posting the 10 Things I Learned in NYC. In the near future, I should have a review of Cedar Rapids up.
Wednesdays now will be more of a random photography day. This way I get more photography on the photography website and more writing on the writing website.
Here are some random pictures from my trip to New York City:

More random New York City images will be coming your way next Wednesday and don’t forget to check out the other website for my list of 10 things I learned in NYC.

These pictures were mostly taken by Kelly on the Howard’s new digital camera, probably purchased on the Home Shopping Network.

There were a few more submissions for COMMUNICATION. Included in this week’s submissions is 1st time contributor Cathie Raley. I’m very excited to have Cathie aboard and I hope she continues to submit.
This week’s submissions for COMMUNICATION:

Hoping to build on the momentum of this week I skipped down to the Random Theme Generator’s humble abode and asked for a good theme for this week. The Random Theme Generator spit out the following theme…
This theme is a slight tweaking of a theme from last year. Last year this theme was called OUT OF FOCUS. We changed the theme to UNFOCUSED to allow for a broader interpretation. A look back at last year’s submissions:
I hope that there are numerous submissions for next week. After all, almost anybody can take an unfocused picture. The thing to think aobut while you are taking your picture is what does it say about the subject when it isn’t in focus?
As always, there is only one rule for the Random Weekly Photo Experiment:
The picture must be taken the week of the theme.
Email submissions to bennett@photography139.com by noon on Monday.

Derrick’s take on the 9 emotions. If you have forgotten, these are the 9 emotions. Left to right; top to bottom.
1. Joy
2. Sadness
3. Anger
4. Amusement
5. Fear
6. Jealousy
7. Surprise
8. Sympathy
9. Boredom
A closer look at Derrick’s interpretation of these 9 emotions:

Since I have about 10 weeks worth of Personal Photo Projects in the pipe ready to be unleashed on the world, I am going to publish two people at a time for the 9 Emotions Project.
The next person to pose for these pictures was Jen.
I don’t usually reveal much about what goes on during this process, but when Jen was making her interpretations, she wanted to make sure she could see Evie, whom she described as her “muse”.

A closer look at Jen’s interpretations:

I think next week’s Personal Photo Project of the Week will involve a roll of film and a hammer, but I might go in a different direction. I guess we’ll see.
